I came from a full size Silverado to my Tacoma. I had all sort of motor issues. Burned oil and kept fouling number 7 spark plug. They had a number of TSBs for the multi displacement motor which where done and I was still having issues. I traded it off before the warranty ended. I hope he enjoys his Colorado but I would never put GM ahead of Toyota in terms of reliability.

And wait till you go to trade in your GovermentMotors. I should know, I just did. Garbage resale value. I will never own another one again. And GM is know for shitazz Hydramatics.

Regearing the Gen 3 AT is the best mod you can do, esp of you have larger tires. It’s not cheap, it makes it drive like it’s supposed to.

I don't have bigger tires so really don't need to regear. I think part of the problem is I owned two Gen 3 Tacomas- an 05 Standard Transmission and an 2011 auto. They had plenty of torque at lower rpms and no constant shifting up and down hills and I live in WV the mountain state and haven driven two Gen 2's for over 10 years it is hard to get used to this one. Now I had gone from my 99 Gen1 4cy 5 speed to this one I would thought I was in heaven-lol

Nice, enjoy! The shifting gets better over time. Mine definitely has. If you want it to hold gears or have better get up and go just push the ECT power button and you'll have no worries. I've got bigger tires on mine too (265/70R17) and it still pulls well.

I told myself that for the last 30000km. Just ordered the v2 chip, will see how it goes. Premium fuel also helps immensely.
