That's currently my goal as well. I don't like the idea of renting, unless I have to. Since to me that is basically pissing money away since you have nothing to show for it in the end, but I do understand why people rent and such, it is just not for me. I plan to get a solid chunk of money to put down on a house and get something pretty decent before I'm 30

 

You summed it up exactly as we had felt! Part of me felt like I was telling them I just failed my English quiz, not that we were having a baby. It was bizarre.

Renting has pros and cons. Realistically it probably saved the relationship between the wife and I as we were both living at home and never had time to be alone together. It was really straining things. We got a reasonably cheap place that allowed me to save up a bunch still. Plus it gave me a second parking spot I didn't have at home, so I immediately went out and bought the 93 Xtracab. For that I don't regret it. The funny thing is I barely remember the place and we lived there for about three years. I didn't miss it.

The wildest thing about owning a house is just how quickly the money goes. I had a pretty good nest egg when I moved in. Now, not so much.

 

Oh the joys of parenthood.

Not gonna lie. There are good days, and there are bad. Some days I feel like just losing my shit and flipping out. It takes a lot not to... there are those days that there is no cooperation from the little ones. But there is a lot of good.

Yeah, it's a tough job being a parent. Not gonna sit here and say it's fun, fine, easy, etc. But it's part of being a "gown up", or so they tell me.

 

Oh I know it, my mom doesn't hide the expenses from me. Granted our house is bigger than what what I would be searching for (shit if i could afford it now I'd buy land and build a garage with a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment above it). But I may end up moving out before buying a house. I don't have an ideal home situation and that stacked with other things going on can be quite difficult at times to deal with

 

I'm actually more worried about 11 through about 25 than I am from now until 11. After about 11 I no longer understood women until about 25 or so. Then things started making sense again. I have a feeling I'm going to find myself going "WTF" more often than I ever have before.

 

I hear ya man. I'm in the same boat. That's why I was hoping my 2nd was a boy as well... but no such luck.

 

Yeah, I originally wanted a boy, but Brenna's pretty awesome. I'm going to give her my Tacoma when she gets her driver's license if all goes well. She'll be the only girl in her high school likely with a 6MT 4x4, so that should gain her style points. I do hope to have a boy at some point. The wife and I are likely going to have a second at some point, but a third is definitely not in the cards. Had we started earlier, maybe, but I"m quite okay with two. Three is a minivan, and I don't want a minivan.

I love her name! That's awesome right there. And definitely awesome about the truck as well. I have the same plan for my oldest. He's 3, so still a ways to go. But we'll see what happens.

Thanks! My wife and I couldn't find any girls names we loved but I suggested Brenna and it kinda just stuck. It's not common, not trendy but also not odd or an oddly spelled common which is what we wanted.

 

You can say that again. He's only 3 and time had flown by already. Geez.

That's awesome right there. Kinda like my story, for my daughter's name. My wife's name is Melissa, I'm Nuno, our son is Lucas, and we have a dog named Jojo. In a moment of silliness, I suggested we name her Kelsey so we could sign all of our cards just JKLMN. She laughed me off. A bit of time went by, and she actually fell in love with the name, and the rest is history. We're the JKLMN family!

I actually got the name from college. The girl across the hall my sophomore year was named Brenna. She was a nice girl when I'd bump into her in the halls and I remember liking the name. Stored it in the back of my head.

After running through every name in the book it was like oh yeah, what about that name.

We have been so lucky though. We have such a mellow baby it's unreal. Plus she's a cute baby, which is nice. Our shallow selfish fear was having an ugly baby and I think we got really lucky on that one.

 

I can relate to that! I've been told my kids are cute, so guess I lucked out as well. They take after their mom, thank God, cause I'm ugly as hell.

Good morning everyone. Happy Monday. Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Short week this week, and a bit shorter for me. Took Wednesday off so I can finish packing, etc, to go to WV that day for Thanksgiving.

 

Thank god I have boys! I don't know if I could deal with girls as teenagers!

It's hilarious how the name you choose in unfluenced by people you knew. I can't tell you how many names got shot down because, "no, I knew a Steve once and he was an asshole"

 

I love kids as long as they aren’t mine hope to keep it that way till Rebecca is 40

 

I could probably get 10-11 ft out of mine if the roof trusses were able to be restructured so they were higher and the storage space above was eliminated.

I think mine is technically considered an "oversized two car", and a standard two car would be 22x22. Although between the benches, tool boxes, and steps into the house I really only have about 20 usable width. My doors are 7 ft high.

 

When I was 21, a friend and I split the cost of a house. Lived there for three years while splitting the mortgage, utilities, and costs of improvements as evenly as possible. Sold it this last spring and I bought the house I have now. Inflation in the housing market plus the work we put in meant we both walked away with pretty decent checks. I'm not sure I'd recommend that approach because there is huge potential for it to go very badly. And, we didn't really plan it out or put anything in writing. It just ended up working out fine...guess we were lucky.
