01 tacoma Xtra cab for sale and was wondering what kind of problems to look for. It's a 4 x 4 with the v6 and 68000 miles. Don't see any rust and paint looks good. Interior is in perfect condition. Drove tonight and felt like it had a tire out of balance and needed an alignment.

First thing to check is for frame rust, especially if the truck is from a cold weather area where they put salt and chemicals on roads during winter. If the frame is rusty, test it by banging it thoroughly with a hammer

Then check if the truck is mechanically sound.

Check for ball joints, then since it's the V6, the timing belt. Try to get maintenance records too, to help you determine if the truck was well maintained or not

oh and if it can help you:

He provided a carfax and it did start out in Wisconsin. It's had two previous owners and doesn't show any accidents. Engine sounds very smooth and runs good. He's asking $11,500 I don't need it but at 68k miles it's got a lot of miles left.

it clearly has a lot of life left in it (these trucks easily go 400k+ miles). Clean, low mileage trucks are usually around this price. Just curious, but if you don't need it, why do you want to buy it then??

Wheeler's/Alcan 5-pack leaf springs, OME 881's, de-badged, Jungle Fender Flares, Herculined bed, HomerTaco grille, Anzo headlights, clear corners,
Frame rust, ball joints...both major recalls once upon a time....but only 68k? As long as the history is clear and the price is right I'd say go for it!

Just wanting a truck to run around in to keep miles down on my 14 tundra. Have a 01 ram 2500 I'm about ready sell. Toyota freak here for sure. Just sold a 76 fj40 fully restored back in may. Have a 78 fj40 I'm thinking about rebuilding if I can get a title.
