Got called on being honest and admitting my experience AND lack of? You called nothing. You pointed out what had already been admitted up front honestly.

I called you out because you rated a tire as “horrible in the winter/snow”, yet admits he hasn’t tried it

You don't really need personal experience with a tire to know how it will perform in snow/ice at -35 C. You can just find out the temperature class of the tire, which will be in a lower range for a winter tire. That is actually the most important parameter, and the first thing you should find out about a tire you considering for use in winter.

Then you look at the amount of siping on the tread. The more siping, the better it will work on ice. But note that the siping makes noise. You can actually see how loud a tire is going to be with your eyes - look at the tread pattern. Any type of all terrain or mud tire is going to be louder on a high speed road, than a tire with a less aggressive tread.

The guy from Quebec City above, gets it. Like he says, my KO2s are going to be hard as a rock in January where I am. That is why I am buying a set of Blizzaks, because I want to have the best chance at avoiding an accident. Anybody who lives in Lethbridge or Winnipeg needs to give serious thought to a set of dedicated winters.

You do not need to spend an awful lot of money to get a good winter tire. There are a lot of brands out there that make a good product; you don't necessarily need to buy Nokians or Michelins.

Ive had both KO and KO2s and both were terrible IMO. The Ko2's are crap just like the originals.

I know a lot of people like them, from my personal experience with the KO, I would never have purchased them again. When I was looking into getting tires a couple years back I was assured the tread design change to the KO2s addressed my issues with the originals. After a few months I had the same issues. Contacted BFG and they took great care of me. I personally feel more comfortable with the BFG mud terrain KM2s in snow/ice/wet roads than I did with the AT. They are definitely not for everyone though.

Weird. I'm in New Mexico too and have used both KOs and KO2s and have had good success in snow, ice, and heavy rain. I'm beginning to think that the nut behind the wheel may be the biggest factor, including myself. Then what about lifting, suspension, etc. To be a true test we would have to use a stock truck, and one that was highly modified (i.e. larger than stock tire size, lifted). A test similar to what Tire Rack and Canadian Tire does would be good.

You're entirely right about the nut behind the wheel, without a deal the driver plays a major role!

I had them on when my trucks were stock. :D Have no issues with other tires I’ve used.

Night and day between the stock Goodyear Wrangler Adventure ATs and the KO2s, here. Wheeled with both, huuuuge difference in the icy stuff with the KO2s.

    Are the mud terrains better?

Ive had good luck with them personally(my second set), they seem to wear fast but I should see around 30k ish on my 35's. But they are definitely not for everyone as they are pretty rough on the road, specially at low speeds, and make more noise than most would like. They are mud terrains after all.

20171121_153915.jpg Picked these ltx at2's up today and couldn't be happier. Great ride and handling. Not a single vibe, shimmy, shake of any kind. I used to talk down on Michelins cause they weren't aggressive looking or cool. I don't think I'll buy anything else from now on.

Bought a set of General Grabber P265/70R16 AT-2's right after I bought the truck from a Toyota dealership in January. I didn't have time to shop around as I was lucky to make it to the tire shop without totalling the damn thing with their "dealer passed safety" tires. Oh well, at least they held air 'till I got there. It was January & there were no BFG KO's anywhere to be found. These were "snowflake" marked so they are Winter Rated all season. So far pretty happy.
