    Rain Visors,
I have had my 2017 Tacoma for about two thousand miles now. I’ve been driving a manual transmission for twenty years, but found I’d stall a lot more than I should be taking off in first gear up a hill.

The other day I was at a light on an uphill, I let go of the break and I didn’t move then a few seconds passed by the brakes released and I rolled backwards. And I realized that going up and incline is always stall as I would release the break and try to move in first before the brake released and I’d buck and stall.

Does anyone else’s truck do this? Can it be turned off?

I think the Sport Tacoma has some sort of Hill Holder for a few seconds after you take your foot off the brake

All manuals, except the OR(edit: and pro) do this. I'm not aware of a way to turn it off, but it annoyed me when I first got the truck as well.

I've gotten used to it, so I don't even mind it anymore.

You will get 2 full seconds of hill assist, unless you get on the gas before that ... which will cancel it. My advice is to just take your time, let it work for you ... and do not panic start.

All the manuals have hill start assist. Once you get used to it you will forget you even have it.

Off Road and Pro do not have it, only Sport and SR

They just do it differently, utilizing either the brake booster or the crawl control (or both?) ... I forget.

The Off Road and Pro use a different style Brake Booster to control ATRAC and or Crawl Control

I hate hill holders when there is a delay in it letting off the brake when you try to start moving forward. My Forester was like this so I disabled it. Maybe the tacomas is better. Or maybe that's part of the reason I hated the clutch feeling when I test drove one.

If you are good with the clutch you don't need one, you just hold the clutch pedal just at the point of engagement long enough to take your foot off the brake and put it on the gas. My car doesn't roll back at all when I take off on a hill.

    Rain Visors,
That’s how i feel I start letting the clutch out while I’m still on the brake, as I feel it engage I take foot of the brake and go for gas. But with the clutch already engaging it starts to stall on me. I get it but it’s fough to get used to

Most days I forget it's even there, drive like normal and it will not be noticeable.

Hmm, maybe it's not as easy in the Tacoma. In my Forester I can start from a dead stop with no gas if I let off the clutch just right. On flat ground anyway. Seems to be able to hold the car at an incline well when partially engaged. I think there is definitely a very precise sweet spot where it has to be to do this though.

I do know the sr Tacoma manual I drove felt really clunky from a dead stop and this might explain why. I forgot how much I hated the hill holder in the Forester. If it worked properly it would be fine, but it always held back the car a tiny bit when I'd start to apply gas. I turned it off and have not missed it one bit. I was really relieved that it could be turned off, I like the loose feeling of a manual transmission in neutral and controlling everything with the gas and brake. It feels wrong to let off the gas and not roll back on an incline. You do have to master it though.

This clutch is also very different from past manuals I've owned, I find the catch point very vague and on hills need to dig into the gas much more before fully releasing the clutch.
