I am going to be buying a new Tacoma around Christmas time. I saw a pretty good deal on a certified used 2016 SR5 (V6, 4x4, Access Cab, Tow Package), which is exactly what I want. It has 13,000 miles and is priced $26,900 on the dealer website. I know buying a used truck doesn't save you the money that buying a used car does, especially with the Tacoma, but this seems like a really good deal. Especially since the truck has pretty low mileage and the power train warranty on certified Toyotas is actually better than a new one.

My father is an experienced truck owner and told me I can probably get a good deal with really low financing on 2017 Tacoma. However, he's always owned GM trucks and from what I hear, Toyota does not offer incentives like GM does. From my research I figured that the cheapest I could get a 2017 SR5 for in my area is $32,000. Most of the dealers list SR5s with the options I want for $34,000.

Assuming Toyota's special financing offer of 1.9% APR for new 2017 Tacomas and the 3.25% APR I can get for a used vehicle through my credit loan the total difference in cost would be $4,847.80

Do you think getting a new 2017 is worth that much more than a lightly used certified 2016? Do you think Toyota might offer better financing or cash back next month? Do you think I can get a better deal on a 2017 since the 2018s are coming out? Also are there improvements on the 2017 that were made from the 2016?

I would go for the 17 in hopes they fixed some of the ongoing issues they are still having. Research, research, research.

Depends on if you are set on the new or the used truck. That will obviously win out any argument that anyone here puts on. Personally, I would go with the '16. You'll essentially be getting the same truck with a chunk of savings. I know there are some ongoing issues that some people have mentioned that are definitely not present in all trucks (I've had my '16 OR for 2 years with zero mechanical issues). The extra 4k your saving could then be put towards some awesome mods!

I was in the same boat as you two weeks ago. The dealer had a new SR5 Access Cab 4x4 for $34,500 list, which they dropped to $32,000. Financing options were all under 3%. For only a $5,000 difference between new and used - I went new.

That price for a used is crazy. I paid about that much for my new TRD OR

In my opinion I like the used at this point. However, it's a close decision. If the difference drops below $4,000 I'd go with the new one.

I would pay extra for new, if only for peace of mind. The original owner could have ditched it for good reason, would rather take a chance on a truck that was built with another year of build experience behind it.

Way too many pitfalls with buying used. Remember used is "as is". Also about 1 million flood cars are flooding the market (pun intended) right now.

Most buyers aren't willing to spend more than $16,000 on a used car regardless of what it is. I mean that's alot of money for most mortals.

Every once in a while you can get a used car with an "Oklahoma warranty": 30 minutes or 30 miles, whichever comes first.o_O
