I haven't heard anything about that (I would go for it as I have a Canyon SLT now), but I don't think it's a reality due to the specialty nature of the ZR2 package & relatively low volume sold. Colorado's outsell Canyon's now so the low numbers of ZR2 Canyon's would be worth it IMO.

In the 15's there were more features & differences on the Canyon that made them unique (Autotrak 4x4, red dash lighting, premium interior etc), but on the newer models they've made Autotrak available on the Colorado's & standardized the instrument cluster so the main difference now is just the body styling.

Thought they were supposed to put the 8 speed behind the diesel this year? That is the one I would buy but not until it gets a tranny that is rated for the torque the lil' diesel puts out.

I love the look. I love the motor. I love the stock shocks.

Hate the stock skid protection, approach angles, aftermarket. And most of all it's not Toyota strong.

    Overall they are nice trucks.

This truck is a good thing for all of us, as it will increase competition in the mid-size truck segment. With the Chevy ZR2, and Ford re-releasing the Ranger, this segment can only get better.

Of course the Tacoma's have better support from the aftermarket (Up to 2nd Gen), the platform has been around a lot longer, but I hear for the 3rd Gens there's not a lot of options for bumpers & other parts yet? For the GM Twins that is changing FAST, this year at SEMA there was a WACK of new Goodies on show for the Twins!

Aev just released at sema their zr2, it's listed just as a concept at the moment but they hope to release some parts to the public in the future. My brother use to own a aev built rubicon and it was pretty badass.

    https://www.autoblog.com/2017/10/31/chevy-colorado-zr2-aev-and-race-development-trucks-sema/

American Expedition Vehicles is mostly known for building some of the most badass Jeeps and Rams around. Models like the Brute, Recruit and Prospector are serious vehicles meant for off-roading and overlanding. While AEV may have a history with Chrysler, for SEMA 2018 Chevrolet partnered with the off-road outfitter for the Colorado ZR2 AEV, a one-off concept fitted with just about everything one needs to tackle an overlanding adventure.

The Colorado ZR2 is one of the most capable factory trucks around. The trick Multimatic DSSV spool-valve shocks have been re-tuned for this application. Other suspension upgrades include front and rear jounce shocks, plunging front half-shafts, high-angle upper ball joint and increased stiffness high-angle tie rods. The travel on the leaf springs has also been increased. The rear diff also gets a new cover.

There have been plenty of other mods and custom features added to the truck. AEV has added new front and rear bumpers, new underbody skid plates, a bed rack, new fender flares and a snorkel for the 2.8-liter turbo-diesel inline-four. 35-inch BFGoodrich KM2 Mud-Terrain tires wrap AEV beadlock wheels. Both the front and rear get bright LED light bars. In the bed there's a ARB refrigerator, aluminum storage cases and NATO-style fuel cans. For recovery, the truck comes with a Warn winch, recovery shackles, a Hi-Lift jack and MAXTRAX sliders. On the side of the bed you can find connectors for air and water. The whole truck looks mean in a light shade of brown. Here's hoping AEV will offer some of these parts for public consumption.

In addition to Colorado ZR2 AEV, Chevy has rolled out a Colorado ZR2 Race Development Truck. While the ZR2 AEV was made for overlanding, this second truck is all about high-speed desert racing. It has all the same suspension upgrades as the ZR2 AEV — re-tuned shocks, long-travel leaf springs, etc. — but adds a 1.5-inch body lift. The truck also gets skid plates for the rear shocks and rear diff. The driveshaft is now made of steel, and the wheels get new spacers and extended length studs. There's a new intake and exhaust for the 3.6-liter V6. Both trucks get electronic locking differentials

Looks Pretty Bad Azz to me!

An unusually high amount of pinstriping.

I'v already had my rant (see top quoted post), but Toyota needs this truck for competition. I really don't like GM vehicles due to numerous bad experiences, but I hope the ZR2 does well.

Looks pretty bad ass to me. If they actually put this concept truck into production. Toyota will definitely be on the defensive. dims.jpg

Apparently after this truck after it made its appearance at SEMA, people have been contacting AEV about the availability of some of the items the truck was equipped with & the AEF was telling them to contact GM with those questions.

So I'm assuming GM must of contracted AEF to outfit this truck & GM probably owns the rights to market them, not sure?

I took a zr2 for a test drive yesterday. It was pretty good. I liked the power seats, lockers front and rear it also has factory bed liner. The ride is more refined than my tacoma - nice and planted on the highway and soaks up the bumps pretty good on the little gravel rutted road that I was able to test on. Has a little more room in the back seats. Unfortunately putting larger tires on this truck wont be easy. The taco has more ground clearance and personally looks better than the chevy. No manual either which is a shame.

I agree that competition is a good thing, and it will help push Toyota a little more. And they will be up to the challenge.

I'm still just so surprised how Toyota has been smashing the competition for all these years with none of the competition coming close but I guess its harder than it looks to design a good truck. I think the looks of the Colorado are pretty good but is just not as good looking as the Tacoma. There's something about the rear end/section on the Colorado that is off/disproportional. I think one of the main reasons the Tacoma has been so successful is the look is awesome for the most part and the resale value on them you just can't beat. If Tacoma's had an option for a diesel though they would probably kill it. All and all I would love to see Ford and Chevy pull off something top notch that would give the Tacoma a run for its money and give consumers more options.

For me the biggest looks killer on the Colorado is that awful rake they have. When they are leveled I think they look good.

I love the ZR2. Good friend just bought one. I'd take it any day over the TRD Pro. However, I think Chevy really missed the mark by not building them with 33's from the factory. I imagine it's the fender design but it still seems like such an oversight on their part.

Yup I think the rake is partially what it is, when lifted/leveled they look better but still something about it looks little off in the bed section.
