It was stock until Toyota went to the rubber inserts. You lucked out.

I did it once. I didn’t realize what was going on and I saw a city worker pick something up before I drove off. That was a few minutes to 5 on Friday and I figured it was gone. I stopped at city hall and the lady there said come back Monday. So on Monday I go back and she has my insert. Sure didn’t want to buy another one for $35.

I guess mine was replaced or old enough to have the plastic thingy. But in all honestly, it sucks too. Never adjusts perfectly.

It is stock. They switched out to the other style(s) around '09 I believe.

Toyota switched away from those plastic spring loaded arm inserts to the rubber ones because so many of the earlier plastic ones broke. Those swing arms snapped off real easy. One guy I worked with went through three of them while his truck was under warranty and the dealer replaced them. He gave up on them after the third and that area just became a catch-all. He made due with the single one behind the AT shifter.

Lost my drivers side insert in a parking ramp, it came out with a bottle of water but then fell off again. I had to special order a replacement, they were pretty pricey so I only wanted to buy one not two. The parts department was unable to confirm which part number was the correct side. The replacement came in, but it was the wrong side. Then I found my missing cup holder in a dark corner of the parking ramp where I lost it. The Tacoma dealer didn’t make me buy the cup holder they had ordered for me. Weird problem, but I like being able to take the cup holders out. I keep some spare gas money underneath.

Mine broke a few weeks ago. It's not the arms that break. It's the cheeseball latch piece that attaches the top stationary piece to the bottom stationary piece, on the end where the arms pivot. I'm going to drill a hole down through it and put it back together with a screw and a nylok nut.

I got my 2008 a year ago and this insert was in the cup holder and I've had no issues with it. I'm assuming the first owner replaced whatever was stock? How do the cup holders usually look?

Walked into training last week with it stuck to my Yeti, obviously oblivious to it. Another person in class did the same. Both looked at each other at the same time giving each other that "you too?" look. #1stworldproblems #hashtag

I guess it is my turn for a free tip, a receipt or two will keep the cup from sticking or forming a vacuum so my 30 ounce Ozark slides in and out with ease.

Bought a 15 to replace my 05 earlier this year. First thing I did was take the cup holder from the 05 and traded it into the 15 prior to selling it!
