    Here's the whats happening;
When turning my wheels slightly to either the left or right, the engine idle drops a few hundred RPM, and this "suction" popping noise comes though the intake.
At first I thought it was a suspension.. so I double checked the coilovers, sway bar, UCA, etc etc.
    Nothing.
Then I had my wife turn the steering wheel while I looked around where its coming from...and realized the sound was coming out the intake. (It did it with the Stock air box as well, just not as noticeable)
Mods worth mentioning that Maybe? Could affect it; 35" tires, OV ecu tune, K&N intake.
I've checked the power steering fluid level too..it's topped off.
I'm kinda puzzled... anyone have suggestions? It's driving me nuts everytime I turn the wheel.
    :annoyed:

Do you know that the stock airbox did that for sure? When the truck was completely stock did you notice it? Or after an offload trip or something... Very strange

Sounds like it's quickly changing the idle by the throttle opening a bit to compensate for the extra load when first engaging the power steering by turning the wheel slightly. I would not expect a pop though.
I don't recall anything like that with my truck, but I have zero mods.

It's the intake and it's lack of an acoustic chamber.

So.. all trucks do it, just not as noticeable?
I am pretty sure it did it with the stock intake just not as prominent.

    Never done it on mine...
A few have reported your exact symptoms; all with K&Ns.
Do a search on "K&N popping".

I just got a K&N and it’s making that popping noise. No idea what it is either.

My unscientific theory: I think it has to do with the power steering pump creating more resistance when you turn the wheel, so the motor drops RPM..and when it does trys to re-calibrate itself by kicking the idle up a little. That little throttle increase creates the venturi sound from the intake. (you can also hear it if you just punch the throttle really quick) the sound of the sucking air.

It's not the enclosed air box, so much as the lack of a air resonance chamber. AFAIK, this complaint is unique to K&N owners.
