Does anybody know where to get the aluminum plate for the safety and recon stickers that attaches to the license? Thanks!

I got mine from Power Edge Hawaii. I believe he is the one that actually sells them to all the car dealerships so he has a bunch of them. Think I got mine for $15 for the side mount one that has safety and recon. He has a bunch of different styles and doesn't advertise that he sells them cause he's the supplier for all the dealerships and sells it cheaper than they do. Nice thick metal that has 2 mounting holes instead of 1 so the thing don't get all cockeye if it gets loose. Anyways, It's on Hopaka St. on the side of the same building as Side Street Inn facing Ichiriki parking lot.

7346E260-B7B0-489F-A1AC-79B8B1E9A964.jpg Ok so a few people I know have been asking me “are you sure your trucks gonna pass the inspection?” And I know know a few months ago you guys helped me out and I felt good but now I’m shitting a brick again. So here we go again. I have king coilovers, TC UCAs, AAL, 285/70R17s, upgraded exhaust, K&N cold air intake, ubolt flip kit, rear diff breather mod, Ditch mounted LEDS, NO mud flaps and I’m having rock sliders welded on next weekend. My tires stick out a little and I would like to make sure that primarily I’m legal to drive on the streets and 2nd that I can go off-roading. Guess I mostly wanna make sure that I’m street leagal and then off-road legal is the next concern.

You’ll fail for not having mud flaps.

As long as the contact patch of your tires is under your fender flare, your wheels are good.

How dark is your window on the front driver and passenger sides?

    Do you have aftermarket headlights?

Does your exhaust dump past your rear most window?

Your tires are fine you just need mud flaps, An hit or miss with the ditch lights some people have gotten passed with out covering them An some didn't.

No tint on the front windows.
    Stock head lights.
And my exhaust is close to flush with the rear passenger quarter panel.

To everyone else thanks for answering so quickly. I’m feeling 100x better again about the inspection. You guys have all been a wealth of knowledge.

Should be fine. Just need rear mudflaps. And just be warned, the recon inspection is subjective. So, your tires sticking out could also be too wide, like the ditch lights being covered or not.

Curious why you would need mud flaps if the 2017 stock vehicle does not come with them?

No need for rear mud flaps off the lot because the state deems the stock 3rd gen Tacoma to have adequate coverage. However, the moment you lift, and from the mods Jultepod listed above, he’s got a good build going, that negates the “adequate” coverage.

It’s subjective and we’re at the mercy of the Recon inspectors and PMVI inspectors. But, that’s what I was told when I called and spoke to the Recon office.

    Just commenting to confirm:
Replacing brake lights with LED ones that flash 8 times then remain solid
    Replace reverse lights with LED
    Replace low beam with LED
    Installing fog lights (SR)
    Replacing stock 245's with 265's

All do not require recon, right? Will safety check fail me for the non-DOT approved lights?

It really depends on the safety check guy you go to. I could see them possibly failing you on the LED headlights.

Ah shucks. I guess the easy work around is to just switch out the lights before I go in and change it out afterwards, huh?

Yeah, I would. I actually switch out my whole headlight assemblies so I don't get hassled with my HID projector retrofit. If I were you, I wouldn't give them any reason to fail you. Even though there is a chance that it might pass, it is a hassle if they do fail you and get it noted down in their system.

So my friend went to get recon on his straight front Toyota today, and they told him since the new year started they aren’t passing people with straight axle swaps. So messed up.
