I think I figured out an easy solution for scuff marks:

    I just used WD-40.

Spray it on a paper towel and then rub the area. Then go back over with a dry towel.

It removes scuff marks AND provides a nice air freshening scent.

Seems to work like charm. Easy peasy.

Let me know if this is a bad idea...

BTW it works perfectly on the speaker areas without slopping fluid in the holes.

Can anyone verify if WD40 is good for fresh breath?

Thanks for posting this! Seems during my yearly oil change at the dealership someone drags there work boots/shoes across the hard plastic getting in or out of my truck. I'll give this a try tomorrow.

Hell I may take my truck in next spring now and let them tear the dash out to get to the stank in my a/c now that I know how to remove the scratches and gouges they will leave behind.

I like the smell of gas but I wouldn't consider it air freshening lol

I started noticing the scuff marks after I took my car into the dealership as well. But some of them were mine and it started driving me nuts.

I hope this works well for everyone and saves money on buying scuff/scratch remover.

Be sure to post how well it works.

    Quick joke:

What do you call it when someone uses Axe body spray to mask the stank smell in the bathroom after they take a poop?

    Shax

    Sh!t + Axe = Shax

Maybe I'm spelling it wrong. Maybe it should be Shaxe...but then that looks wrong :anonymous:

    From a detailing perspective...
Some interior automotive plastics are very porous. I would wipe down with a light all purpose cleaner after using the WD-40; so that no long term staining occurs.

I was wondering about that. I'm going to do that now. That is really good to know.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of info out there on this topic. Then again, maybe my search parameters are questionable.

    Thanks again for the advice.

BTW is there a detailing secret to deal with scuff marks? My dad suggested soap and water but I didn't want to slop soapy water around especially around the speakers.

I attacked my wife's Ford Escape today with WD-40. Her car has alot of black plastic on the exterior and I always get wax on it when waxing. Here's the results:

So it looks like WD-40 is handy dandy on interior plastic trim and exterior plastic trim. Just a little bitty spray on a paper towel goes along way.

    Contrary to popular belief...
I’m pretty sure WD-40 is actually a solvent, and not an “oil” as we most often think of it.

Seems like I read that somewhere not long ago.

It definately seems that it has solvent properties. I'll have to say I thought I was going to have to live with wax residue on my wifes car trim until I started playing around with it.

Dealerships use a China marker and a carpet square. Completely removes them.

Scrub the area with the carpet square after using the China marker on it

Is a China marker like a grease/crayon pencil? This is good to know.

Yeah they have them in different colors. I think they're also called wax pencils.
