unless you are on a fenced property its not that critical, because someone else might not pass on it either...

Well there's like six hundred acres or so between our property and the adjoining property and there's only two people that hunt the other property and I know them pretty well and they don't shoot small bucks and I try not to shoot some call Bucks I really wish this would have been a doe sometimes but it's too late now but they are also and right now it seems so may not even been our properties about to begin with

:notsure: I used to hunt on a property that was "managed" they didnt want you to shoot anything less than 3pt on one side. Which is great if you are wanting them to grow a bit...BUT the adjoining property didnt have any rules about that, and the road between the two properties was always hunted by the other owner and club members. Plus it was in MD where you could take a lot of deer in a season. I guess thats my thinking behind it...take your shot while you got the chance otherwise someone else will.

I pass on a lot of bucks some are around the next year most aren't. They either get hit on the road or taken by the other hunters around the property.

My main thing is that killer small bucks does nothing for me; i would just have rather killed a doe, And left that buck for a couple years or my wife or someone who hasnt shot many/any bucks... It doesnt matter now and ill be happy with every bite so dont get me wrong

My group hunts several thousand acres and we have a rule that if it’s a buck it better be a 3.5 yr old and at least an 8 outside the ears. I passed at least a dozen different 8s this year. This one was 20 yds away so I snapped a pic.

We shot a dozen 130”+ deer this year, including a 174 and a 198. I know it doesn’t work for everyone but you’ll never convince me that QDM doesn’t work. I didn’t shoot a buck this year. The largest I passed was about a 140” 10 pt that I guarantee was only 2.5 yrs old, and I was glad to let him walk. He’ll probably survive and will definitely be bigger next year if he does.

I honestly typically don’t care how big a buck is. It’s meat. I don’t usually hunt for horns. I’ve changed that a bit this year. I’ve let 2 good 6 points walk and a bunch of spikes. One of the spikes I’m 90% sure got killed 10 mins after I let him go.

BUT, I had seen a monster In there, which is what I was waiting on and why I let the 6s Walk.

Went to a spot this morning I’ve never been before to scout, but i had a huge 8+ point cross on me one morning last week. I saw 7 scrapes within about 200 yards of each other. Big scrapes, too. Guessing it’s him tearing it up. Went there this evening and had a button buck walk through. Definitely gonna be back next week when I’m off all week.

Most of the scrapes were about this big...and done within the last couple days. (Semi fresh droppings in this one...probably done late last night.)

Thats the important thing to me...Granted I'd love to shoot a huge buck, BUT I also want to use the meat for my time and effort...I get a little irritated if I lose meat due to a bad shot or not where I wanted...it happens i know but I am really a little more hard on myself since I know Im capable of a GOOD ethical clean shot!

QDM does work if you have the property.

Cabelas a couple weeks ago had them for $150 with the rebate. Nearly bought one. May have to pick one up in 308...

I think the Ruger American has a better magazine than the Savage. Both are great rifles for the money.
