OEM+ Things

I've done a little searching around and I can't seem to find a thread on OEM+ parts, or parts that can be upgraded on the Tacoma that come from other Toyota models.

Any particular things that are worth doing in this subset of modifications?

So you're asking about factory parts for other models that work on Tacoma's..? Unlikely to be many.. I'd bet Tacoma has the largest parts bank of all the Toyota models outside of the 86 (possibly), so Tacoma parts would be the most numerous and wide ranging.

 

That's true, but Toyota seems to reuse a lot of patterns and that kind of thing. Like with shift knobs, AC controls and that type of thing.

 

They sure do, it's cost effective to do so. But certainly the desire to take a set of HVAC controls off a RAV4 and put them on a Tacoma would be pointless if they were identical parts. Shift knobs then?

As far as actual aesthetic/performance accessories, they're model specific. Some are able to be used on same cab configurations (Access Cab can use some Double Cab Short Bed aftermarket parts), but generally speaking.. you can't take anything of value from one platform to another, which I believe is what you're asking about.

Any M8x1.25 shift knob will work on any M8x1.25 threaded shaft - this is the auto trans Tacoma size.

A/C Air Conditioning Control Switch Knob Button For Toyota VIOS(2002-2006) Vela Vitz YARIS (Black)

HVAC controls from a Yaris will fit, and are an upgrade for aesthetics.



Fuel pressure regulator is the same as used on the TT Supra, so these trucks can handle boost easily.
You can get a Hilux 4WD knob, as it's lighted, and use the machined ring one of the members on here makes.
Supra pink top injectors are also an upgrade, but I believe that was only for 1st gens.

 

Only stuff I've swapped in has been an illuminated ignition ring (out of a Tundra). As close as a lot of Toyota's lineup is, not much transfers over at least interior wise.

You can swap in steering controls from any of the vehicles with the same steering wheel design, probably not even worth it cost wise. 4Runners TRD/Trail/Pro came with the gloss black steering control trim.

Tundra 4x4 knob (big silver one) seems to work in Tacomas and it lights up. Like what was said above, also Hilux lit 4x4 knob can be retrofitted in (see thread by @kgarrett11)

Not much else out there that's cost effective besides the small stuff

Yup I read somewhere that someone installed a v8 Tundra engine on the Tacoma.

 

T4R big brake kit fits the 2nd gen Taco. When I need to overhaul the brakes, I'll be doing that one.

If I remember correctly, you can get the exact same ones for around $11 on eBay, but slow shipping. They were one of the first things I put on my truck when I bought it.
