Funny, you should mention fly tying. Just got this sent to me.

    L.L. Bean/Moore furniture. $12500 for a fly tying desk!

I have been using a peak vice for quite a few years... Still works great. One of the few value purchases in flyfishing.

Would you recommend upgrading the plastic bolts or do they hold up?

Why not have one custom built from a wood working shop? Or is that not possible?

Unless they changed them since I bought mine, the plastic bolts in mine are the original. Mine is one of the first runs offered, so if I had to guess it's well over 10 years old (the bobbin rest isn't the mountain peaks on mine, it's the usual rounded one). I did purchase the midge jaws (and I think the saltwater jaws, but can't quite remember), but never use them, mainly because I'm kind of lazy about changing them out.

The only upgrade I got for my vise was the material holder, which is just a spring.

I should note, I am not a frequent tier. Usually what happens is I make a New Years resolution to tie at least 2 flies a night every night... and do that for about 2 to 3 months and fill my boxes for the next year or even 2. I do rotate the vise quite a bit in the flies I tie, but maybe that's why my plastic screws have held up (or they are shot and I have no idea. ha).

Agree, I suck at fly casting/fly fishing but I still enjoy getting out there in the outdoors and trying to catch fish. Plus I love all the cool gear that goes with fly fishing .

So I just put a deposit on a Stealthcraft Hooligan (similar to the flycraft raft), and now am trying to figure out options to transport it. I'm picking it up at the flyfishing show in MA in january, and just plan to strap it to the prinsu... but my longterm plan is to get a trailer.

The first plan was the harbor freight trailer, but with them being recalled (and I'm not sure when they'll be back for sale), I'm looking at other options. Anybody have some builds of raft trailers or suggestions? I'm not looking to spend a grand (Stealthcraft sells a trailer for ~$1000, so if I'm out of options, I might just go with that). Just curious.

I hear you, good thing is they put it on sale several times a year. It will probably go back on sale as we get into spring/summer.

The astonishing thing, someone will pay it or else they would never be built.

Unfortunately, I didn't tie these. A buddy tied them all up for me. I supply him with bird skins, rabbit & deer fur and he provides flies. Although he's not using any of those materials for these flies, he does try more traditional/classic patterns with those.

The tails on the flies on the right of each pic are strips of bunny fur. Moves around nicely in the water.
