How much does rust bother you?

Do you all do whatever you can not to buy a vehicle from the northeast?

    Does frame rust bother you?

Is there any decent looking fix to frame rust without having to do a bunch of work to it?

I’m looking at buying a vehicle from Michigan and the rust is real. In your opinion, will it hurt my chances of resale terribly?

Toyota replaced a lot of frames because of rust. I can't stand rust on my boat trailer never mind my truck. Tore apart the boat trailer and ground and sanded for nearly 3 weeks primed and painted it. A season of use and it is starting to show up again. Without even buying it you are concerned about resale. I would look at something else if you are having doubts.

Coming from someone that lives in the northeast, I can say it all depends on the previous owner and how they took care of it. It doesn't need to be the death sentence just because it's from the northeast. Due diligence and a good inspection no matter where it's from is on the buyer.

Oh and btw; Michigan is not the northeast.

Buy from another state if possible and it will never be a problem. My truck came from Arizona. The frame was a bit dusty but I cleaned it up and it looks brand new.

Rust bothers me A LOT. I can't stand rust. Glad I have a southern truck. Rust free, aside from your inevitable surface rust on bolt heads here and there...

Nothing cancerous though. I'm the guy that fluid films the crap out of everything, washes well, and wire wheels then spray paints everything. Rustoleum high performance contractors enamel is my go to.

Man, you live in Prescott, all the good condition Toyotas are basically local to you. Why shop out of state?

I won't buy a vehicle from the northern states where they use salt on the roads. Even when I lived up north (shudders), I bought vehicles from the southwest or Texas. It was worth the effort to get rust free vehicles to start with.

Coming from someone who lived in Michigan and now lives in the south, don’t buy it. Take the time to buy something without rust.

I live in massachusetts and have a 2010 with 132K on it and lots of rust...I bought it with 78K in 2012 and have done my best to keep it clean but it's a losing battle. I just had the warranty rust coating done at toyota...here's the before and after...and mind you I was told this isn't 'bad' rust...
    Before

    After

I have yet to do something on the truck that doesn't involve PB blaster, breaker bars and all the ummpf you can muster. Just snapped one of the 4 bolts holding on the skid plate last week and the tack weld holding the nut on the other broke loose...

Does cancer bother you? Because that's basically what rust is; cancer for iron-based metals.

Rust is a big demoralizing factor working on anything down there. Especially when you start snapping fasteners. I never seize everything. Been noticing a lot of OEM's are moving to that electronic/Cathodic stuff. Still sceptical myself, but I do know that without something like that, a pipeline would dissolve in no time flat!

Which, in all honesty, people have to buy trucks. And not everyone can afford to fly south every time. This truck has every maintenance record from its birth and the frame rust isnt exactly peeling yet, its just brown.

And I understand that technically michigan is not the northeast.. but most states who still use salt if I am not mistaken are in the northeast. which is why i say it.

I dont live in Prescott anymore.. I have to fly or drive down there to get my crap but I am living back in Michigan. So I have options, but this taco I am looking at is in excellent condition other than frame rust and some on the back bumper. If it is all the same, I would just buy here and drive since I can see the truck.

Wow, those pics of the CRC application are NOT making me excited about dropping mine off next monday for the same thing...

What dealer in MA did you bring it too?

Is that shit dripping off the backside of your front mudflaps!?!? On the second pic is that overspray on the inside of your tires?!?
