Loving the BM Bugout. Great size/weight for edc. Been rotating through these three BMs lately:

My personal choice CRKT Hootenanny definitely a great blade by a pretty well known blade smith Ken Onion.

Looks like a BM North Fork

@TruckFan09 how do you like that north fork? I’ve got a mini barrage I’ve had for years but it’s time to replace it. I like the wood skins on the north fork but I think I am going to miss the assisted opening of the mini barrage.... i saw benchmade did a limited release of the mini barrage in a similar wood skin... but it was a lot more expensive...

Correct..it is the north fork. I love it. A little thicker/heavier than the other 2, but not too much so for edc. With the axis lock and how smooth the movement of the blade is, I don't think you need an assisted opening. Very easy one handed open/close. I normally would stay away from a recurve blade on a flipper, but figure with benchmade's customer service I'll just send it in periodically for resharpening. The stabilized wood scales are resilient as well.

Hmmm good point on the recurve...

I just don’t know if I can get used to a new edc hahaha- I’ve carried this mini barrage almost everyday for close to 10 years ...

I almost bought that knife when it first came out. Went to the store. A 11 year old kid was fondling it. He gave his mom a look and she said, “we’ll take it”. Just like that, I never got the knife. The kid got the stores last one. Lucky spoiled kid. :).

    nice!

    OOOOooo nice!

I have a cryo also... onlything bad I can say is Ive had ALL the screws that hold together the knife come loose. The blade screw is the most temperamental as it has to be just loose enough to allow the blade to open but not too loose and not tight all the way. This might apply to all kershaws like this. I think I would put some thread lock on the next one I get.

These are my two mains, right now. Mostly the ZT.
    ZT0350BW & M16-14DSFG.
Spydercos are supposed to be real nice, the tenacious is supposed to be a great knife, well priced.

I have a Spyderco Ambitious (little brother to the Tenacious), and it is a very good knife. The lockup is perfect, blade is perfectly centered, and after breaking it in, it flips open very smoothly. For $40, I am very impressed.

I ordered a Tenacious for my cousins boyfriend for Christmas, so I'll get to handle it first hand. Don't own any Spydercos yet. I have been eyeing a Karahawk for a while now though...

My EDC knife is a PM2. I absolutely love it. It is a little big, and I always preferred smaller knives. After getting this one though, I haven't carried any of my other knives.

For under $50 I'd go Kershaw or Spyderco. Cold Steel if you want to spend a little more.

As most members have said, for that price range and size, a Kershaw or Spyderco are the way to go.

Since this thread is four years old, I'm pretty sure the OP @kingston73 has a knife for EDC now. I'm just wondering what knife he decided on and how has it held up over the years?

Three of my favorite knives for EDC are a Benchmade 940-2, Spyderco Yojimbo 2 and a DPx HEST/F Milspec. They are not the cheapest but certainly not the most expensive either.
The Benchmade and the Spyderco have S30V steel blades and the DPx has a D2 tool steel blade. I really like the S30V steel. Super strong and very sharp. Holds an edge extremely well. The D2 tool steel is tough and takes a beating. All three have different locking mechanisms but they all work equally well. They just take some time getting used to individually, but lock very securely and are smooth opening.

All three have G-10 polymer scales but the DPx HEST/F has a half G-10/half titanium handle with a hex driver built in. You can stick any hex drivers in the handle and use it like a screwdriver. There is also a tungsten carbide glass breaker at the base and jimping on the back of the blade for wire stripping. Plus the blade is very thick and tough. The DPx is more of a utility/survival knife but surely can be used as a EDC. Only downside is that it weighs more than the other two.

The Spyderco Yojimbo 2 has a very aggressive blade and is more of a fighting knife. I really like the Wharncliffe blade design and it has an awesome cutting stroke. Very violent on flesh. Being a straight edge, the blade is very easy to sharpen. This knife is great for slashing and stabbing. Cutting tape on boxes doesn't stand a chance. The downside that I found was the pocket clip. It doesn't ride deep enough in the pocket so I replaced it with a titanium deep carry pocket clip from Blade4sell on Amazon. Works a lot better and looks OEM. Titanium Deep Carry Pocket Clip for Spyderco Knives: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VZRC7R6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_l4B1G1BWFYuD9

The Benchmade 940 is probably one of the most popular EDC knives ever. Great design, great steel and very lightweight. Probably my favorite out of the three since I carry it the most. Instead of the aluminum handle on the 940, the 940-2 has G-10 scales with green spacers. So lightweight and slim it blends in the pocket well and very comfortable. The blade is S30V steel and works well for a variety of applications. Plus it doesn't look too intimidating unlike the Yojimbo 2. Only downside was the pocket clip like the Spyderco. Didn't ride as deep as I would want it. So I replaced it with a matte black titanium deep pocket clip from Blade4sell on Amazon. The matte black is very stealthy. Works a lot better and looks OEM.
