reading this makes me scared. I havent really felt problems with my tranny other than poor cruise control shifting. I do get a clunk when cold, but thats it.

How long did yours go before they topped her off?

I know this is no consolation, but I would never trust the stealership. Only each individual owner can be trusted to ensure their tran fluid is filled correctly, and it appears that until Toyota starts putting dipsticks back on the engines.... this procedure is in effect.

Good call, definitely be checking their work. Such a bummer on such an expensive vehicle.

mine started having symptoms at about 300 miles in. I then began researching online for hours a day, things kept leading back to TW. Thanks to this awesome site, I got all the tools I needed to be in the know.
I lurked for a while, especially on the thread gearcruncher posted above and became horrified at what I was discovering. I used the tips provided on this site by the experiences of others on this site in how to approach it. I even printed off the Toyota documents on this site that details the correct procedure so the dealer couldn’t BS me on it not being able to be done.
It had just under 800 miles on it by the time it got topped off, 2quarts worth. I went several rounds with the dealer (lying employee to my face, twice) and corporate and dealer management before I got all issues at the time taken care of and a free 8yr/125k warranty from corporate.

Also, I painted my bolts too. It was obvious because the fluid was all over the side of the tranny where they had filled it up.
