You know gen 2s had massive frame rust issues, right?

Either keep the truck and bite the extra 2-3mpg or trade it in for an entirely different, more fuel efficient truck, but don't go from the same truck to a smaller engine. You'll hate the decision and quite frankly it doesn't make much sense at all.

What reliability issue is there ?
CPS was a bad batch in 16, seal on diff is fixed.
Sure beats an invisible frame on 2nd gens.

LOL @ every thread turning into 2nd gen vs. 3rd gen. Anywho, I commute 80-90 miles each day depending on which route I take (traffic dictates). I'd love to get better MPG, but I also put 33s on my truck. I'm happy to get 17 MPG, but the constant small inclines get frustrating. I think my 17 Mustang GT got better mileage no joke. Basically just gotta face facts at this point, I guess. Coulda got a full size and possibly better MPG, but I like the Tacoma much more.

Thank God the 3rd gen doesn't have the reliability issue of the 2nd gen's.

I did a 1 hr commute each way for about 5 years and imo the vehicle is the least of the problem.

Accelerated/increased fuel expense, maintenance cost, vehicle depreciation, 10 HR/ week driving more in bad weather, fatigue, stress, quality of life are all things that wear you down and wear you out.

I would suggest moving closer to work, if the jobs worth having maybe it's possible to be closer to, then keep your truck, enjoy it and have a better quality of life

Every day I drive 19.7 miles to work on way and takes 1 hour (Gilbert to Tempe). Back the same dance, 2 gallons of gas per day, about $6. I average 19.3 to 19.8 MPG and I fill up every 2 weeks at pay day.
Is not the money or distance that I have, is the wasted time in slow traffic, stop/go for one hour morning and same in the evening.
Keep what you have and put up or don't move to the new job.
