    Hello all,

I'm interested in hearing what kind of ideas you might have to solve the following SUP transport conundrum: I need to carry the SUP and tow a 19' boat simultaneously (SUP then will go on the boat for fun at the islands). I don't have or want a camper top right now, and I don't have an OEM rack. I'd like to install some kind of tonneau cover at some point, and the bed rack/tonneau cover combo options are way too pricey. A sport roof rack system at first seemed ideal so I bought a used Thule system cheap on CL from a rather uncommunicative guy who knew nothing about them. I got them home and found they were the Tracker II system that's best installed on low profile tracks on a camper top. My fault for not asking more questions. I love the Thule stuff because it came with a kayak roller on one bar and the kayak support on the other, and that'd work nicely for a SUP but leave me flexibility for a future kayak. I did find a thread here about installing a curved ditch insert track on the double cab but it requires drilling holes which I'd like to avoid. I'd also like to build in flexibility to support transporting all the other wonderful things I can't even imagine right now.

Yes, I'm being super picky and trying to save $ all at once. I know, I know.

Maybe what I need to do is sell the Thule stuff, buy one of the racks Thule or Yakima or whomever makes that utilize the bed rail system, put pads on it for the SUP, and then buy attachments later when the time comes. If the racks are relatively easy to remove I could use a tonneau cover the rest of the time. But I like how easily you can take the Thule bars off and just leave the feet in the rails. Also, I'm concerned about the type of sports rack that clamps on because of potential paint damage. So many tradeoffs.

All that being said (whew!) I would love to hear what setups those of you in similar situations have used and how they've worked out for you. Particularly "I wish I'd..." or "What I found worked the best was..."

Thanks in advance. I just joined the forum and it seems awesome, just like owning a Tacoma for the first time.

Do you have the SUP already? I have an inflatable one that works great and packs down into a small bag.

I could possibly put the SUP in the boat while trailering, but...I'd also like to transport it sometimes without the boat.

What I have is a hard 10'6" ish board. I've read about the inflatables and that sounds cool, but here I am with what I've got.

Yes.... well having it sticking out of the bed, Especially a SB
with a boat on a trailer is not going to end well.
tie it down or make some 2x4 rack for it to ride on the boat.
    10'6 ain't to long
would ride in a long bed with no problem

Makes sense...I guess I could tie it down in the boat like you said, and then when not trailering I could use one of those hitch attachments with the horizontal support and pad. It's a 5' bed. Or maybe just a pad on the tailgate? Seems like that last idea would require way too much strapping down...

I haul a 12 foot kayak in the 6' bed with pads and the tailgate lowered.
2 straps thru those D-ring tie downs... EzPz
I some times carry 2 kayaks this way...
But not with a boat trailer....

EzPz indeed....that'll work! And tied down in the boat while trailering. Well, perhaps I'll table the idea of a bed or roof rack until I have better reasons for it...but I'd be interested to hear folks' thoughts on what installations they've liked, for down the road.
