What are the rules on calling out a dealer/online parts seller here?

Here's the deal. I bought an OEM long bed mat (P/N T580-35050-LB) from a dealer who also has an online parts store last night. I found this company through Google's shopping link on their website. The price was $103.55 with free shipping. The "free shipping" was on Google, their product page, their checkout page and my receipt from them.

I get an email from them this morning saying that this item is oversized and requires extra shipping cost to the tune of $85!

A few emails back and forth and it turns out that their shipping policy (a separate link buried on their website) says that oversized/bulky items will cost more to ship but there's absolutely no verbiage stating such on anything I saw before I purchased.

Am I out of line for expecting a company to be up front with things like this? Something as simple as a tag on the page noting this is an oversized item that may require additional shipping would have made me move on right away.

Also, can I call out a dealer on this forum for what I think are shady practices or will I be booted?

The order is cancelled and already ordered again through a dealer that sells on Amazon. Total price is now $121.40, which I still think is a decent deal.

Calling out vendors on TW usually doesn't end well from what I have seen. Maybe chat with the staff first if you think you aren't getting good service from a TW vendor.

You can get a 3rd gen bed mat from @gunny1005 for less than $90 including shipping last time I checked.

I bought my bed mat from him and was very happy with the transaction.

Call him out, they have been shipping these heavy oversized products and don’t tell u upfront- typical. Just like when I was at the dealership. He told me one price, just when I’m in the room that runs the loan and you sign then. The payments went. I WENT BALLISTIC. I got in his face. And said keep the truck. Bunch of snakes. You tell me a price. Than on the 11th hour u change it. So bad for me,won’t sit and take it. I raised my voice so loud they said ok, ok. We’ll change it back. I went after the big shot owner of the place, got right into him. Was furious. Not all are like this. But very few and far between are really straight up.

I agree asking the mods first might not be a bad idea as their consent is normally good to go to town with. That being said, the dealer is normally the last resort for me. Im generally a nice dude, but most dealerships dont know that as I dont take their bull.

Well, you called him out and I’m biting on the plug, thanks!

As for the OP’s problem, it’s unfortunate that the disclaimer was buried in the site like that, hopefully you can just cancel the sale and give your business elsewhere.

Because it's bullshit salesman tactics and they know it. They lie to you intentionally, then drop the ball at the last second hoping that you will just go along with it. They know most people just fold and go along with it. Why put up with it? I sure as hell wouldn't.

I go to order stuff on Amazon or eBay and this same thing happens. Do I freak out?

This is a common situation and pretty much everyone has the same policy. I think you are being unreasonable. Maybe you should try your local dealer. I know what I paid right from my dealer and picked up at their parts department and it was cheaper than ordering online.

Face first. I usually do. And ur probably right just to leave. I gave him a chance. Than put still another price. Not much but that’s not what we agreed on. In the end I got what I negotiated for.

How exactly does one find the mods here? I'd be happy to share my screen shots and emails back and forth with this dealer if that'll make them ok with me sharing the name. I only bought from them because they had the best price through the "Google shopping" links.

I'm also going to be filing complaints with their state AG's office, the FTC, and the BBB along with poor reviews on every car site and review site I can.

As a sidenote, I run a business that ships ~1500 packages a month. You know what happens if we make a shipping mistake? We eat it and change it after that sale. We don't run the customer around and try to almost double the cost of the product to get it to them.

Not saying it wasn’t the vendors fault in this case, but as a occasional EBay seller, I’ve been screwed by EBays shipping calculator and had to pay a lot more for shipping than what I received for it from my customer- it’s not always that cut and dry and yes, vendors make mistakes. At least they shoild offer to meet halfway on the actual shipping cost.

Greeny your exactly right. There used to people walking out. Raising there voice. They could care less. I gotta live with the loan. They filled there sales quota. I’m not a mean spirited guy. But damn. You tell me a figure I’m holding you to it.

Typical convention is the seller can cancel the order any time prior to charging your cc. Could be buried shipping terms or a straight up error in the listing. Report them to the FTC and buy from a cheaper place like Camelback Toyota.

Free shipping is almost never applied to oversized items. I'd bet there is small print somewhere stating such.

I ordered some wheels from an online vendor that stated free shipping. They then came back to me and stated wheels were exempt and shipping was xx.xx amount. I ordered from somewhere else.

Name the vendor and we will check it out.

Didn't say put up with it. I'm saying just leave. Why give them your money if they're trying to fuck you?
