I am trying to replace my fog light bulbs with yellow halogen bulbs. I have search this topic and found that H11 and H16 are both supposed to have the same base and should both fit into my fog housing. I bought the Optilux by Hella H11 bulbs but they will not seat properly in my fog housing. I can't get them to turn to lock into the housing. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a way to make them fit?

No issues. Keep trying might have the tabs slightly misaligned.

Welcome to TW! What year is your truck? And if it is 16+, is it a TRD?

    The 2005-2011 take H10
    2012-2015 take H11
    2016+ SR5 take H10 - Edit: This should be H16
    2016+ TRD take H11

Thanks for the replys, my truck is 2016 TRD Sport. I compared the bulb to the one I took out of my truck. The oem one says H16 on the bottom but through some other research I read that info may not to correct. Anyhow I don't think it matters since H11 and H16 are both supposed to fit and when I compare both bulbs they look almost identical.

Most threads/articles/videos I find ppl are replacing with LED H11 and seem to have no issue, not sure if a halogen H11 is any different.

If the tabs are misaligned, anyone have any tips on how to align them properly?

My truck's manual says that H16's are 19 watts..... H11's are 55 watts..... The chart says "if equipped" beside the fog light bulbs...

My thinking is that your truck was "not equipped" with the 55 watt bulbs.... and may have smaller wiring and a 55 watt bulb may fry..!

The different wattage bulbs are Likely part of 1 of the "option" pkgs.... I have the TRD Sport upgrade AND the Premium crap.... If you don't got 1 of those... maybe your "FUBARED"...

If you took an H16.... that's what you need to match your bulbs to the wiring installed.... That's MY 4 cents CDN..!!

    Good luck my friend..!

I understood the "if equipped" line as in if you truck came with fog lights as in non base models. The manual also states wide angle or non wide angle so I thought I had a choice as to which bulb I wanted. I am not sure if wiring can handle the wattage, my truck is a TRD sport with premium pkg. maybe someone else who knows will be able to confirm. But my problem mainly is the lights wont seat properly and I cant turn the bulb to lock it in.

That's because you are trying to put in a bulb that is not designed to go into that socket...!!

Well thats what I don't understand because from what I read on google and other forums H11 and H16 bulbs are supposed to be the same base, only the wattage is different....unless thats not true? Can anyone confirm this?

I'm sure that can "modify" the tabs with a dremmel or whatever, but I would NOT do that Bcuz of the wattage..!

H11 fit fogs fine. It's probably the tab on that bulb that may need trimming. Compare it to your stock bulb to see.

The issue is that is gonna spray all over the place lighting wise so I would only run it offroad or when there's no oncoming traffic like running high beams.

Here's my video installing H11s. The issue I had was there is a screw that made it hard to install into the lows without some force which I didn't want to do.

My 2016 SR5 had those H16 bulbs (19w), and while the bases were nearly identical the tabs on the H11 (55w) were in different positions. I trimmed that tabs on the H11 so it fit and in less than 5 min. the housings started to melt.

Now that I am done with the day job...

I had to cross reference what bulbs I removed from my fogs as I was pretty sure the 2012-2015 and 2016+ TRDs both ran H11s in the fogs.

Sure enough my 2015 had stock Osram H11s in the fogs.
    qMzp6LCsSJu+In2qwZYOqA.jpg

It could be the wide angle fogs are optional in the 3rd gen TRD? I'm not as familiar with 3rd gen. An H16 is a pretty poor bulb based on specs. I don't have any experience with H16s but from reading it does seems they should be interchangeable with the H11s. However, I also ran across that one post above claiming issues specifically with the Optilux bulbs, which is normally a sound brand. Compare the tabs on the H16 vs H11 side-by-side, do they look nearly identical? There are "H16s" which are 5202s and a completely different looking bulb.

The wiring issue can be solved by running a standalone harness:
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Nokya-Rela...ash=item1e902c3d5e:g:XDkAAOSwCmZZTT1e&vxp=mtr

However that does not help if the housing is compromised by the heat.

That is concerning. I run 90w H11s that put out 2x over stock and my housings are fine.

Right. Good that you realize this is a bad practice for street use and treat is as off road use/high beam use only.

On the 3rd gens the TRD off road has wide angle fog lights with H11 bulbs. The SR5 doesn’t have wide angle and has H16 bulbs not sure what the TRD sport and limited come with.

well my 2017 trd sport has the osram H16 bulbs stock. so I bought a set of
Optilux H71071132 XY Series H11 12V/55W Xenon Yellow Halogen Bulb
and they cant fit in my fog light socket even though the look almost identical. I will try to trim one tab at a time and see if they will fit or maybe just return to Amazon for a different set

link to the set i bought https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B002E2WMWG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    Sorry for resurrecting this.

I just bought h16 for my 2018 TRD Off Road thinking that was stock but h11 would work for flood. I pulled the bulb and it was an h11. I decided to put in the h16 anyways. It fit like you would expect and I was able to turn it and plug it in.

They are Nokya h16 type 2 yellow

From what I gather TRD Off Roads come with H11 for flood off road use. While Sports have h16 for driver / spot lights.

Since I’m too lazy to return the h16 and buy h11 I’ll just keep them until they crap out. Or unless I feel like I really need a more floody light for my “off roading”
