Does anyone know exactly when that part was updated on the 06s? I'm contemplating the purchase of a 2006 with an apparent build date of June 06. It looks like a great truck with only 95k miles but now I'm second guessing...

Bump. Would like to know when this issue was fixed as well. Mine was built in 01/06 and have 170k no issues with this so far. Knock on wood.

From what I have read on this topic the problem is on 2004 till they made a change sometime during the 2006 production run but not sure what month the change was made.
There is a huge thread on this on the t4r.org (4Runner forum) with quite a bit of info. Good luck to all you guys with this problem.

Junk yard here has complete engine for$2400 Canadian. No way I'd pay 4k American to replace head gasket.

I have the same problem 2005 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner V6 at 220000 MI. P0306 is the code Cylinder 6 misfire change plugs stutters in the mornings you hear a swoosh of antifreeze in the mornings. My mechanic is charging me 2200. This definitely has recall written all over it

Recalls are for safety issues. A leaking head gasket isn’t a safety issue since it’s not going to cause a fire or cause you to suddenly crash.

As far as goodwill warranty, not likely on a 13 year old truck with over 200k miles.

Recalls are not just safety issues but also known defects and engineering faults that are in the cars before a fix was found .
