Does this unit still let the truck shift up into a high gear when you're coasting/descending/driving on the flats with light throttle? Or will it simply not use 5th or 6th below a specific speed?

    Welcome to TW!

Yes it'll hold the gear but most of the time the speed setting is faster than I'd like.

I find it doesn't do engine braking very well here in the Sierras, so I'll just kick it down myself.

Not sure if that's what your asking.

Thanks. Guess I should have spent a bit more time interpreting that graph when I first read through the thread, but by the time I'd hit page 100, I was a little punchy :). Yeah, that answers my question. For light throttle driving, it looks like the truck is going to be turning higher RPMs than with the factory shift profile, since it will be holding 2 gears lower (e.g. staying in 3rd gear when going 30ish mph at low throttle instead of going up to 5th).

Interesting that quite a few folks say that their MPGs didn't really change or even went up, since usually higher RPMs mean more fuel consumption, though I might be oversimplifying. Maybe all the lugging that happens with the factory profile hurts the mileage.

Regardless, I'm pretty sure I'm going to order one of these. Not a day goes by that I don't curse the bizarre shifting behavior of my AT. Wish I'd bought a stick.

I saw a +1 mpg increase last tank from running this. I ran two entire tanks and can safely say i now have 16.4mpg with 285’s and a 3” lift and do 50% freeway 50% city roads. Truck feels great. I forgot to shift from d to s to engage it this morning and noticed within a block how shitty the truck was driving. At the next light i engaged it and it drove smoothe again

I've had this installed about a week now. Install took about 7-8 minutes with another 1-2 minutes of setup. The ridiculous shift pattern is gone and I feel like I'm driving my 2nd gen again if not a slightly peppier version of it. I likely wouldn't have felt the need for this mod with my stock tires but with LT285/70r17s it was a must. By the way I drive in the flats of Denver but also frequent the high country. Going out i70 was such a drag before but now it just holds the appropriate gear before jumping into 6th on an incline and losing all power as it did before.

Does the SSP take into consideration tire size? My tires make my speedo off by a couple percent. Will the shifts still correlate to the speed on the speedometer, or does it take into consideration the difference in tire size?

No, it will not take tire size into account. But I have 32s, and it still drives great with SSP.

    From the FAQ...

Level 1: Lower RPM shift points, less aggressive.
Level 2: (default selection), optimized for all around performance and has been the baseline programming on prior units.
Level 3: More aggressive shift map, designed to achieve slightly higher RPM for performance driving and trailer towing.

Anyone find it is smoother and more quiet using stock shift in city driving under 60km/hr and ssp for better highway driving?

The ssp advantages to me is the start to stop and stop to start action. Especially smoothen the process from slowing down to exiting onto highway. And resolves the harsh downshift (6th to 3rd) when overtaking above 80km/hr

However, I found using ssp for city driving is a little bit on the noisy side (engine noise is loud 2-4th gear), and also clunky in traffic (mostly shifting back and forth between 2nd and 3rd gear)

To me, it's a two part solution, I just wonder if anyone feels the same as I do. My ultimate goal is to only use ssp in both city and hwy driving, I wonder if the 3 settings will solves this. But I can live with it no problems at all

I know this sounds petty, but does any else get annoyed with the shift change popping up on the dash? Is there a way to change that? Every time it shifts it sends me a notification basically.

Way I understood it, is that the I could be in drive and this uses the sport mode automatically? It that correct? Also, i only see one switch for on and off, how do you access tge 3 different modes?
    Thanks

To access the modes you turn car to aux and program it to mode you want. Tskes about 10 sec. mode 1 is what most of us use, mode 2 is normal, mode 3 towing. But you cant simply switch from mode to mode. Once you program the mode you want it stays in that mode tell you reprogram it

A little more than a handful is what I prefer! Wifey wants her aftermarket rack lifted from 45 to 25 year old! I said you gambled your lift away and now my other girlfriend, the TRDOR, is getting her rack redone!
Ha! Love them both, just one never talks back and makes me equally as happy in different ways!
