Sorry I searched but can't find anything. Is this a mod or did previous owner come up with it himself? If mod can I get a link to see the procedure he used. In the bed he has a nice string of Led's on either side of the bed. BUT... it is setup with a magnet type switch that activates when fold up cover first section is raised. I have not tried to remove wiring to see how and where it's ran to. I have 2 issues:
    1. The lights only activate if cover opened. I'd like light even when cover not opened.
    2. Another issue is that if I change to a toggle type switch (easy) he has it wired to only activates if key is turned on or truck is running :( With a toggle that is still a PIA

Irritating note: If I'm hauling anything that requires cover open the lights are always on... at night the bed is all lit up driving down road.

There are vendors in the lighting section that sell LED setups. I imagine if you contact them and ask for a different style switch they could work something out or you could add one yourself.

Follow the wires yourself...Uninstall power line. Run new fused power from battery.
Add toggle to the line before magnetic switch.
Really lots of threads show how to get constant power. Forget bedlighting just look up constant power or magnetic switch and toggle then you can adapt to fit your needs.

As mentioned above, wire to the battery with a fuse. From there, you can get as creative as you want. You could wire power to a single pole double throw, center off switch. Up= always on. Middle= always off. Down= feeds the magnetic reed switch and comes on when you open the tonneau.

Or you could just wire your existing wiring to the battery and stick a magnet to the reed switch when you want the tonneau open and no light.

Mine run off the battery. On when I want them on....off when I don't. Doesn't matter about whether the engine is on or not.

Thanks for all the replies. I am going to run down the wiring today. I think I will add an SPod... I will then connect the bed lights to it. Until then I may add an easy toggle in line if I can find one that goes in line and does not need to be permanently mounted. I'm looking for a magnet now I can use until then just in case.

Do you have a link to those lights? That's exactly what I've been looking to add.

Shop around some. I originally bought mine a couple of years back from a group buy here on TW from Lexus of North Miami. Not sure if they stock these anymore though. But they're readily available.

I paid no attention to the wiring instructions. They had it so the bed lights came on with the dome lights. I didn't like that. Ultimately it's just a hot and a ground...so you can power the lights however you want. In my case the battery with a 5 amp fuse for protection.

When I bought mine you had to print the templates yourself (that may have changed). If not...be sure to have your printer set to "actual size".

Mostly miscellaneous electronic mods.... -2 spare Electrical fuse blocks hard wired to the battery with a key on relay. -Hard Wired Radar detector over rearview mirror. -2 Dual Whelen Avenger blue LED emergency lights, one on each side of the rearview mirror. -EP911 Blue LED Light Bar & Traffic Advisor, Rear Windows. -4 corner amber strobes in stock lights. -Hardwired RF Scanner with external speaker under center console. -Huskyliner front splash guards -Fireband 2 way radio in center console. -Herculiner painted on hitch and skid plate. -Switch to power one 12v socket when truck is off. -AntiDark LED strip under hood with switch. -Timbren Rubber Springs - Rear -MBRP Offroad Cat-Back with Resonator -Duratrac's -Provisor -Color matched hood bug shield
What I did with my bed lights is just grab switch control from the interior dome light.

If a door is open lights are on. If truck is locked and you hit unlock lights come on. It lowers your risk of draining the battery by leaving bed lights on and it’s a fairly simple install.

I got two cheap white sticky strips at autozone for like $25. They stuck to the underside of the bed rails really well and have been there for years.

The switch in your dome lights is ground side switched. So run got power back through your lights and snake a ground wire up to the dome light to connect in.
