Just popped up in my feed. I AM NOT THE SELLER and I don't know him. Just thought someone here might be interested. Could make a fun project...

I wonder where the original accident was. Hopefully not a flood.

I find it very hard to believe a deer did that much damage alone. I've hit plenty of them.

It's seriously a roll of the dice based on my experience... I have never personally hit one (luckily), but you should see the Ford Flex I had to tow to town last week that hit one going 70. That poor thing is DONE. Sometimes it bends a bumper, but then other times they completely destroy a vehicle. Not sure how they are so far all over the board.

But back to the the OP! If I was anywhere near there I would certainly go and take a look. I know there has to be a backstory, but that appears to be a good deal face value. Who knows what else is up with it though.

if the frame hasnt been damaged or twisted, looks like a complete front end replacement, other than that looks like it was a very nice truck. probably a good deal for someone that has autobody repair experience.i would drop $5k cash take it or leave it.

Question, why wouldn't the owners have it repaired using his insurance policy? it doesn't look totaled enough to write it off as scrap metal

My guess is that because it was already a salvage title (see the ad), the value was low to begin with. Whether or not to total a vehicle is determined by the value of the undamaged vehicle vs. the cost to repair. I think different insurance companies use different thresholds, but my guess is that the prior salvage title probably put this one "over the line" of what they were willing to repair.

Maybe a little hard to believe, but my dad nearly totaled a Subaru Outback with a deer, and he was only going about 45. Insurance fixed it but the body shop ended up incurring more cost than the original estimate, and after the final bill the insurance co. told my dad that if they had known it was going to be that much, they would have totaled it.

yes that makes sense, the insurance adjuster probably felt that it would cost too much to repair and wrote a check for how much its worth in the present state to the owner. I think the $6k asking price is too high to risk buying for repair, unless someone has some serious Autobody background and knowledge to tackle the project.

but did you hit them on a tacoma? :) maybe it was a very large deer who knows, that area that's damaged is mostly thin metal/plastic. Probably would be different if he had a steel bumper
