    Hello,

I have searched for this but did not find anything definitive but my question is can you purchase map updates via memory card or otherwise? There are certain areas by me that I know aren't on my current 2016 Nav maps and are current elsewhere as of last year (Google Maps, etc. etc.). Thanks.

I just got a email from my dealer about a update. If it doesnt cost much I may go for it. the current revision is pretty out of date.

They update the maps every year but if you buy the new SD card from the dealer it cost $180 according to another thread. You can get them cheaper off eBay but you have to be sure you get the most current card as lots of them listed are older versions.

The Navigation must work way better in the Tacoma than it does in my wife's 2016 Rav4 if there are people considering paying for a map update. The voice control has worked exactly zero times in the 2 years we've had it, we've given up on that, and the Navigation itself is awful. We just grab our phones and use it instead. Had I known it was so bad I wouldn't have paid for it.

I've had my truck for exactly two years and seven days and have used the Nav dozens and dozens of times and in that time period it has never let me down. I guess I can consider myself lucky.

It must be a different version then. We used it around town where we knew where we were headed, it took us completely out of the way, punched the same directions into Google and it took the correct way. In a pinch I hit the "Go home" button to get us out of a lake town last summer and instead of the main roads, it tried to use back gravel roads. I was so unimpressed. My wife and I spent months using the voice command to see if it would learn our voice to start actually recognizing it, not a chance. It has yet to listen to a command and actually repeat back what we said. Very frustrating. Probably the main reason I'm holding out for a 2019 tacoma. To see if they'll address it in a new update.

Can the sd card be loaded then taken out? Like if we bought one and shipped it around on TW for a small fee then passed it on again etc or shared with friends.

If i remember correctly there is a setting for voice training in the headunit itself. I dont think it learns by just using it.

The sd card stays in your headunit, slot in bottom right corner. It cannot be passed around and apparently they are very encrypted for copying purposes.

My 2016 Nav has not been updated and I too got the email from my dealer. I already decided that mounting my Pixel 2 XL on a Ram Mount and using the excellent Google Assistant I will just use it instead. Ive found lots of areas on the Entune Nav that things were not on there where they were on Google. That coupled with the sucky (worse than sucky) Entune voice recognition that there is no way Id update my Entune Nav. If I think I'm going somewhere with no cell coverage I will download those area maps from Google into my phone and be golden. So very disappointing to own a $40k truck and these stock things not work.

How to you get lifetime free updates from Garmin? Years ago when I bought my Nuvi, Garmin wanted money for updates or you could buy a lifetime update If I remember right.

I have a Tom Tom and when I bought it they had several models that looked the same, the cheaper versions were just the GPS unit, the more expensive units were the same model but included lifetime map and traffic updates.
