I'm thinking about getting a new set of rims and tires for the winter. I live in New England. My trd sport came with highway tires. Which I like in the warm months for MPGs. I want to get off road oversized toyos for winter. I had them on my 07 4runner. But since they were oversized my tire air pressure warning light was constantly on. Will this happen on my taco? Anyone know?

Why did the bigger size make the tpms light come on? Are you sure it wasn't just that you hadn't had the sensors re-programmed when you changed wheels (if you got new wheels with the bigger tires)?

Just to look meaner. My 4runner looked a lot better with a tire 1 size larger.
The sensor must have known that the tire pressure was higher than factory specs, due to larger tire with more air. I didn't think there was a way to re-program! I kept the same size wheel. They were stock fj cruiser rims but the same size as what came on my 4runner. The wheels i had became oxidized and coating was peeling off.

Bigger tires shouldn't equate to higher air pressure.

Not sure how the sensor worked. Maybe it was the weight of the tire. Or the bigger tire required more air pressure than stock. I dunno. But the light was definitely caused by that mod

The light shouldn’t have come on due to a larger tire size... but if you go to a local tire shop, they can reset your tpms and the light should go off. When you switch wheels, your truck’s computer won’t recognize the new tire pressure monitors in the different wheels until you essentially “sync” them with the truck. Just go to a local shop and ask them to reset your tmps sensors, it takes like 5 minutes and they usually won’t charge you for it.
