We've had a few products in mind that we've been trying to get out. This is one. It's designed for the people that want to customize the sides of their truck but don't need step bars and don't want something as big as sliders. These are Rocker Guards. They'd be priced in between the step bars and sliders. The outer tubing is a smaller diameter then the inner. They simply bolt on and are not designed to be used as sliders (because of how close the are to the body of the truck, they wouldn't have the room to flex like sliders do) So they are mostly for looks and to provide side protection from door dings and road debris.

Sorry about the bad pictures. These are unpainted on our very dirty truck. We just wanted to give you guys a rough idea of them and see what you think before we add them as a product. So let us know.

Looks like a good idea for those that want the slider look without the slider protection.

 

got the email as well, i voted the not my style but some people might like them...cant hilift them

 

Why would anyone want a slider look without the protection? Don't make sense to me. It also says they aren't used as steps. It looks like they don't even stick out enough for door ding protection...

 

THese are rocker panel protection not sliders. Haven't any of you guys seen things like these on jeeps? THey just protect the bottom of the door. Its for people that don't need the width of a slider. I have sliders that I like better but I have seen rocker panel guards before.

I don't like rocker panel guards either. THats why I have sliders welded to my frame. I was just saying that I have seen these on Xj jeeps. THey protect from if a rock hops up and hit under by the door.

 

Just add a hitch light that lights up when you throw it in reverse

these are kinda similar to what the H2's have. i went outside and snapped a pic of a co workers h2 rocker gaurds above the side steps

 

I have avid off road sliders and love em. Solid product for sure. I think he's just trying to open up the market and offer something in a reasonable price point that will allow "some" protection without the sheer BEEF of the slider.
Obviously less material, less time to build, but for some it may be what they are looking for? How many 4x4's on the road never see dirt? More than do... I imagine.

I say build them and they will come (buy)...

Honest feedback and opinions is exactly what we were looking for when we sent this email to 360 of you guys and I appreciate that (even the negative stuff). But let me see if I can help you understand our R&D point of view.

Basically, the way we see it, there are 3 types of toyota truck owners. The people that leave their truck bone stock and just use it as a truck, The people with 4wds that do most modifications with the purpose of making it more off road capable, and the people that do the modifications that make it look better and more unlike every other tacoma out there. Yes there are people that are a mixture of the last 2.

Most people with 2nd gen Tacomas don't do any extreme off roading. Most have 2wd pre-runners. We sell 4x the amount of bolt on sliders then we do weld on. Why? Because most people aren't worried about high centering on a rock or loosing footing and sliding their truck into a tree. They don't get into those types of situations with a truck they paid 25k for. There are some great 4x trails here in AZ. When we take a weekend and go out, we take an older truck that we've built more capable and don't feel so bad about trail damage on it.

Our more extreme customers are some of you guys here on TW. We are developing products that will meet your needs as well. A full front bumper with winching abilities, bed basket, full rear and rear guard, are a few. But we've only been around for about a year so give us some time. Our end goal is to offer many products for all types of Tacoma owners.

Based on many emails that I've got in the past months, there are a lot of guys that can't decide between step bars and sliders. They don't need steps and don't need sliders but want to put something on. These rocker guards would be another option.

 

I used to have the N-Fabs on my truck but I did not like the steps hanging down so far.
Other than weld on or bolt on sliders the other options are the so called running boards, not what I wanted either.

These are a nice comprimise between the full on sliders and steps.
Good protection from city dangers like shopping carts and door bangers.

Not everyone wants the same thing these are just another option.

I would tend to agree. The Company is just trying to offer Options for other customers...but good feedback from everyone.

 

I like em! Looks great and now that I cant run mud flaps this would help deflect crap from my front tires, and make the rock chips that do happen less noticeable. I don't wheel my truck besides the occasional dirt road to the boat ramp.

 

I'd rather just get a set of sliders, but I could see the appeal of these

 

I like the idea and the look. I think it would be great if you could add some steps like the n-fab bars. This would be perfect for me as my wife is short and it is difficult for her to get in the truck. I have been looking at the steps vs. the sliders. I dont need the xtra weight and protection of the sliders and dont like the gap of the steps. Let me know if you need a tester or if I could order a set before they are put on the market.
