i have a question on airing down for snow driving. We recently had a large snow. I am very familiar with driving in snow but this is my first with the Tacoma. To my surprise my drive is in a slight hill and I never even got to the driving issue before the truck took off sliding side ways down hill. I managed to straighten it before it then slide the rest of the way backward. So the question is I am runing with 35 pounds in the tires what should I air them down to for snow driving. I have to presume there was not enough tread FYI it was about 9” of snow and no ice. Again I never even got to try and drive it as it was

Stock tires suck in some snowy conditions. Get direction snow tires

Yes they are stock and run 34/35 warm temp so you suggest 29 cold temp

35 seems high if you got stock tires , Bring them down to 30, might help. I am running COOPER AT3 and run them at 30. Just went out for my first snow drive here in western Mass, And they did real well

Pretty sure the Placard on the drivers side on my truck says 30 PSI, so it sounds like you are over.

Seems like the guys on TW have said it many times that their dealer fills the tires to 35-36 when they get service.... If you use their service.... you might want to take control of the Tire pressures..!!

Stock P rated tires should be 29/30. I run my E rated tires between 33 and 35. Airing down in the snow will help a bunch, but you shouldn't have to unless you are stuck or in a really bad spot. Running over inflated tires in icy/snowy conditions will be like riding on skates.

I have also had Cooper at3 s and there is no comparing to hankook or any other directional snows. Especially when stopping or changing lanes in slushy conditions

You are correct I had been running
29-30 since owning it and took it in for service and was told they always run them at 35 pounds. I presumed they knew what they were saying bad idea. FYI lowered to 30 pounds went back out and it drive up the drive like on dry pavement Thanks for all of the advice

OP didn’t mention if he had a truck before in the snow, if not, then welcome to light rear end ice driving! Nobody mentioned putting more weight like sandbags in back?

Yes, depending on where you are and the amount of snow/ice you drive on,... You might want some extra weight in the box...over the axle.... Really helps out if you are in the big snow region like me.... Here's a pic of my driveway.... pretty level, but a bit of snow..
