We have an office in San Fernando, and I was told that flying embers, as big as 12oz soda cans, was how these things spread so fast.

That is the point of my post. I have seen them interview snow plow drivers when there are just a few snow flurries coming down. Stay off the roads, check your tires, put a shovel, blanket and an surviaval kit and flashlight in there.

The same storm that dumped some snow in the south is headed our way this afternoon/evening. 3-5" is expected. Local news stations are covering it like it's a major snow event. Ugh!

A few inches of snow? Looking forward to what all these people moving from CA and TX and God knows will do when we start getting winters again around here.

Not sure about the rest of the North, but in Maine if we get less than 6 inches overnight the kids usually still go to school, but they might get a 1 hour delay for the road crews to get caught up. If it's still snowing hard at 5AM the superintendents will usually cancel for the day, unless it's forecast to taper off in the AM.
Never heard of it being hot enough up here to cancel school for the day.

where i live they bring up that parents have to pick up the kids from school and will have to drive and rush after work in dangerous conditions to get the kids, they make them stay longer in the warmer months to make up for lost winter days then they cry about that too,

...^^^... I lived in Canada and Finland and they deal with snow (because they are equipped to deal with it) much better than we do in the south. A foot of snow was nothing in Canada or Finland.

In ATL, we don't have the good equipment and the city managers turn everybody loose from work and schools at the same times (giant traffic jams) and people don't know how to drive in snow and freezing rain. Last time we had a snow storm, many people and school buses were stuck on the road over 24 hours.

It's a "GIANT CLUSTER-F**K" every time when have snow or freezing rain.

I lose my power when the winds blows hard because of the many tress in my area. And if we have snow or rain, I am toast for electricity for days maybe. No gasoline either, because no power for the gas pumps.

What was the deal with them not canceling School and then telling parents to come and get your kids as the buses are not running?

So the forecast was for a dusting of snow.
Then they escalated to 1 to 3 inches yesterday.
So this morning, and all day various weather sources escalated it to 2 to 4 inches, tapering off around 7pm.
I just checked, we are at 6inches and it has not tapered off.

Yall need some heat? Get a furnace. It's 12 degrees outside with a few inches on the ground but it's 76 inside. I'm happy.
