@TRSAndrew I purchased the 2016+ TACOMA: MORIMOTO ELITE, I'm curious what people have been doing about the passenger side headlight plug, I don't like that it is exposed to the elements. I covered mine up with a thick plastic bag and tapped it up with electrical tape. Does anyone have a better suggestion or done something different?

Woah...my ddm ultra bulbs don’t bounce anywhere close to that video. That would bug the hell out of me.

Do you have a picture or could you take a picture of how you mounted the ballast next to the radiator? I also did the same with my relay.

Highly disappointed with these lights and the bounce for the price.

I'm going to have to do a full retrofit and go with 55w now.

Just ordered the kit from TRS. Tried to install but the ballast was bad for one light. Tried to call TRS and sat on hold for 1/2 hr and no response to my emails. Is this normal for TRS product and service?

I don’t have a lot of experience but I have called twice and both times they were very helpful and nice, walking me through the correct stuff to buy and answering all my questions (newbie to this stuff). Hope they are as nice if I have to call with issues with my parts once they arrive...

I just ordered the HID 11B low beam setup and the LED fogs with the yellow film. Haven't shipped yet (says they're no backorder). They've always had such a good reputation. First set I've purchased and waiting to ship. Now I'm getting really nervous it may have been >$300 wasted based on comments on this thread. Is ANYONE having a good experience with these lights? Wonder if I can cancel...

I purchased the TRS H11B 35w 4500k setup with the Morimoto XB LED fogs (without the yellow film though) and I am completely and positively happy with my purchase. I don't have any of the bounce that others here mention, and the bounce is not isolated to TRS either. I have no idea what the actual problem is for those with bounce, and some speculate it's the actual passenger side housing as that's the most common side that I've seen it reported here.

I don't know how to ease your concerns, other than to say if you truly are worried, then cancel the order until you are ready. Just remember that if based our buying decision solely on the negative comments from posters here on TW, then we might not own a Tacoma.

Good luck, and hopefully you can find comfort in whatever you decide.

Thanks so much for the reply. Great to hear you like them. I got the 35w 5500k. I live in Maryland and unfortunately don’t take it anywhere frequently where I might experience the bounce.

True what you say...seems like if somebody is going to make a comment, it’s typically negative. Good to know about the issues though.

    Thanks again.

It's not really going to be submerged or anything serious in normal use, but you could do some dielectric grease in the connector and just cap it off so that nothing can corrode the pins.

Not really. Peak times + my efforts are needed elsewhere more urgently. Now trying to make time to get back here more often, but we're always accessible if necessary!

Correct, but the warranty can't cover a factory design flaw unfortunately.

Here is my write-up on how I mounted and installed the HID kit. It was cheap, fairly painless and did not take too long. It looks very clean under the hood IMO. Hope it helps.

Some descriptions are vague because I think the pictures give more detail. Unfortunately I didn't take pictures of every step so it's up to you to read the instructions and reference any pictures that may help. Also, I did not mention how to connect all components (bulb to igniter to ballast etc.) since there are tons of instructions out there.

Let me know if you have any questions or would like more details. Good Luck!

    Parts List – Home Depot
    • 4-1/8 in. x 7 in. Tie Plate ($0.87)
    • 3-1/8 in. x 5 in. Tie Plate ($1.96)
    • 1-13/16 in. x 5 in. Tie Plate ($0.58)
    • Rust-Oleum 12 oz. Black Semi-Gloss Protective Enamel Spray Pain ($3.98)
    • Rivets & Rivet Gun (or nuts and bolts)
    • Drill & Drill Bits (I forgot what diameters, sorry)
    1. Drill hole into 1-13/16 in. x 5 in. large enough for the battery mounting rod to pass through. Tip: look at the pictures below to estimate hole location. You want to make sure you drill hole so the plate butts up against battery mount and doesn’t interfere with the bend in the next step.
    2. Drill large hole in 3-1/8 in. x 5 in. at top right. This is to mount the bracket directly to the truck.
    3. Bend the 1-13/16 in. x 5 in. Tie Plate 90° halfway between 1st and 2nd row of holes. Make sure you are able to seat the bracket as seen in the pics.
    4. Temporarily place driver side ballast and relay to 4-1/8 in. x 7 in. Tie Plate. Mark where additional holes will need to be drilled. Repeat step 2 for passenger side ballast using the 3-1/8 in. x 5 in. Tie Plate. I removed the mounting bracket that came with the ballast and installed it directly to the plate using the screws it came with.
    5. Lightly sand and clean all surfaces before painting. Let dry.
    6. Attach 4-1/8 in. x 7 in. plate to 1-13/16 in. x 5 in. plate. The plates holes line up so no drilling required.
    7. Mount and install ballasts and relays.
    8. Install on car. Remove the battery tie-down bolt and remove the bar. The bar should pass through the bent bracket. Re-attach bar and tighten bold down over the newly installed bracket. It's hard to tell, but the passenger side bracket is mounted right behind the grill on the sheet metal. I found a random hole not being used.

I was using a $50 dollar kit off Amazon and they were brighter and whiter.

Luckily I got my morimotos on sale but still overpriced at $100. I guess they need a full retro to shine brightly...

I was nervous getting these lights with the "bounce" reviews. Finished the install of the low beams today and extremely happy. Took a couple hour drive on some dark back roads with no bounce noted and great visibility. I have the 35w 5500K setup and feel the color matches the DRLs almost perfectly.

Excited to get my LED fogs with the yellow laminX to finish it off.

Hopefully they continue to live up to their reputation. Time will tell. Will update with any changes.

I wonder why I was sent h11a bulbs. I ordered ther 2016 Tacoma specific kit which I see comes with h11b bulbs but I received h11a bulbs.

Never mind, I screwed up and ordered the fog light kit. TRS said they'd swap them out for the b's:thumbsup:
