I've almost done it but caught myself. And I agree, mostly, would rather have a transfer case lever but manual lockers suck at -30 or 4 inches of mud.

Could be worse. In the Colorado/Canyons, the 4WD knob is hidden from view by the steering wheel, and there is no 4WD indicator aside from that switch. The switch is on the lower left panel in relation to the steering wheel. While it never happened to me, a lot of guys were bumping the switch with their knees while entering the truck, which would engage the 4WD. Less experienced truck owners were driving around in 4WD without knowing it.

Me too, but today's average buyer would be horrified if they had to get out of their comfy cab to lock the hubs ahead of time.

"Back in the day" we'd just leave the hubs locked in the dead of winter and switch in and out of 4X4 as needed at the T-case.

As a compromise, I wouldn't mind a ADD style front diff and a manual T-case. At least you wouldn't be relying on motors and switches to get your transfer into the mode/range you want.

AS a side note though, I had a Chev truck in the 90's that worked this way and it had problems. Sometimes 4wd - 2wd mode changes would take a suuuper long time IIRC.

I know someone who did that in her F150 for an unknown period of time. Needed a transfer case later that year unsurprisingly

I keep rolling down the back windows when trying to roll down the fronts. Buttons are just a tad bit forward compared to my old Gen 1!
