Ham antenna bracket fabbed, painted, bolted up, cable routed

radio/speaker mounting plate fabbed up, bolted in, wired up

Face plate relocated, mounted, wired up

Roof case + hardware sourced, painted, mounted up.

Damn it has been a long day. Ran out if light, got cold and hungry before I could mount up my traction boards. Got a project for next weekend I guess!

 

I know bout the salt. I lived in western PA for a few years. Glad to be out of that stuff. AZ uses crushed lava rocks or cinders on the roads. Windshields worst nightmare.

 

We've barely had any stick to the ground and the roads are already white from salt. It's ridiculous!

 

Ugh tell me about it. Id rather replace my windshield a few times as opposed to having the entire truck rot out from beneath me.

 

You might get lucky, but be prepared to spend twice.

 

Hopefully this will get me some points with the fat, jolly man up north. It is an embarrassment of zip ties. A real zip-tie abomination. A ziptiepocolypse. What I'm saying is, please don't take a look behind the wreath.

Been looking at adding a CB radio to my truck for trail and backroad comms with friends. I haven't found too many dedicated threads here (other than some that were really really in depth). But, in some internet searches the Midland 1001 LWX seems to be a pretty good value (around $70 usually).

So for those with CB set ups, should I jump on this? It's on sale...

No pics, but did the door weatherstrip mod to cut down wind noise and greased the blower motor. So much less noise now...

 

FWIW it has been $50 on Amazon since 3 years ago or whenever it first popped up on there.

If you just need a cb for communicating with friends on trails then I wouldn’t spend any more than that. Save the rest of your money for the antenna/mount and cable and an SWR meter to tune it all so you don’t fry the radio.

I bought a cobra 75 handheld for Cb/noaa radio.

If you are just communicating vehicle to vehicle within line of site I wouldn’t even waste my time on CB, and just get some FRS handheld walkie talkies. Cheaper, better voice clarity, and no need to dick around with antenna install process or. SWR. But if you are doing it just to have a project I’d totally understand. It’s always fun installing stuff.

 

I used a hand held CB on a mag mount Antenna that I got for Christmas last year for my last trail trip.
A little more cumber-son then a mounted CB with a speaker and a handheld Mic.
It work great and was better then the driver's that were deaf, and it served the propose.
I don't need it for my DD.
I may install one someday, but that's not a priority.

 

Put on some wheel locks today (and found out that one of my lugs is impossible to get off, despite having my wheels just replaced. Will be going back to Discount Tire tomorrow to have them take that lug off...). Also decided to put my stock mudflaps back on and replaced the stock ac knobs.

 

What about thst rainbow colored shit they have now? I suspect that is a time waste as well

 

Yup, thicker and colors just make you want to rinse more, more time more $.
Just get the dust and mud off the paint.
You want a quick wax after your wash, buy some spray wax and get a couple of clean hand towels and wipe it down.
It will cost you more the first time for the spray bottle but the will last you 4-6 washes, leaving you ahead.

I have a tool box in my bed.
In it I keep a wheel cleaner for before the wash and a tire shiner for after and a spray wax that I really use.
