No but they do provide quite a bit of good info to give you the basic information.

Exactly, and people that are not newbs remember how accurate the 1st gen manual was about lockers  none of us have ever used a locker over 5mph and NEVER when we weren't already stuck, right???

Personally, I think reading the manual is quicker and easier than reading 4 pages of people arguing about if someone should tell someone to read the manual. Thus my suggestion. Seriously though...if you have never even switched into 4x4 before I do think the manual is the BEST place to start learning, then expand your knowledge from there. Merry Christmas!:santa:

And this can't be part of expanding knowledge?

I thought I was being attacked from all sides LOL. No offense taken. When I posted the page numbers of my manual, I was being somewhat self deprecating and helpful at the same time.

I really didn't mean to start any arguments with this thread. Guys and girls, can we please stay on topic and be polite.

The mods have already spoken and made it clear.

OP - you shouldn't have to apologize. I've been picking up some knowledge on both 4hi AND 4lo. I know I'm not the only one learning here.

Thanks, this was the guidance I was looking for. I have a nasty hilly spot I use on occasion, 4hi is usually ok, but hill descent is where 4lo will be most useful.

Ditto. I have plenty of experience with 4hi, but not 4lo. It’s nice to get more clarification before breaking expensive parts.

Please understand... the reason I mention reading the manual is the manual is usually right and does not have an opinion. While there are several (not hundreds and definitely not thousands!) knowledgeble people here, there are also people that have no clue about anything. That doesn't stop them from commenting though. Good luck.

    I remember my first 4x4...

Basically you are saying you are lazy ("not fun to read") and that you may have written the manual since you do live in Florida (written by someone who doesn't even use 4wd often")?

Did you even try searching? You have been on here long enough to know that question has been covered numerous times, and that has to be more fun to read than the manual you so eloquently skipped and wanted the answer spoon fed to you. Post number two was an extremely useful answer (to which he even gave you the pages a short time late) which you choose to ignore because it wasn't "fun to read" and you became snippy like a woman during that time of the month, so who was the asshole in this thread? Be sure to use 4wd any time it rains or you wonder on to a hard packed beach as I am pretty sure that is exactly what most people in Florida say they buy 4wd for...

I didn’t know you’re supposed to put it in 4-lo occasionally, I knew about the ten miles a month supposed to be driven in 4-hi. We have a 200-300 yard gravel driveway, I usually put in 4-hi on it.

3 miles from my house... I go several times every week. As a non working disabled veteran i have lots of time to play in the dirt.

I also live a mile and a half from any pavement. These dirt roads get flooded often. I off-road more than a lot of people. But this is my first 4x4. So i do have questions.

I'm so sick and tired of responses like "have you tried the search?" People try the search all the time and get hits from their search on threads like this...which start out with UTTERYLY USELESS responses. Now...if someone was like..."Hey here's what my search results came up with" and provided actual links to possibly successful results, we might actually have a functional search engine. Instead it's just non stop badgering about how long people have been a member and they should know how to search and this topic has been covered before and blah blah blah blah. I don't care if you read 1000 threads about the largest tire size that can fit, if you can't contribute, don't reply.

If possible I'll engage my locker and roll it for a climb.
