Saw the Hilux section on here and figured I'd contribute. This was my old 1978 Toyota Hilux. Mileage was decently low, body was straight and paint was VERY clean after working hard on it with a buffer. The previous owner had installed a Weber carb and put in 4Runner bucket seats. I lowered it and then proceeded to put Dolphin motorhome wheels on it. I miss this truck, wish I would've kept it but made for a lousy vehicle to serve as my only car and wasn't practical at the time.

License plate heatshield I made since the truck didn't have one when I bought it

Some before/after working on the paint and lowering

Nice truck. Clean and straight. I had a '78 2wd that was given to me by a friend who needed space in his garage. Didn't run but a complete tune-up got it going. Mine came with a 3" body lift and 31" tires. Same yellow color as the truck in the background of your 10th picture down. Drove it for 2 years. Got $1500 trade in on an '87 4x4 Toy pickup. I'll dig up a picture if I can.

Thanks for sharing. I had a ‘76 HiLux In ‘84 that was just like this one (same from ‘76 to ‘78). Welded 2.5” straight pipe in place of catalytic converter, disabled emissions and unleaded only, tuned jets on stock carburetor. Was running 6 degrees below top dead center with dwell dialed in perfectly. Was mustard yellow 4 speed and could top out at 110 mph on I-580 (SF Bay Area). Great truck!

Love it! My first car was a '79 just like this but yellow. Such a fun little truck.

    nice little truck!

My neighbor used to have a 1979 hilux with 54k original kilometers (33 500 miles). That was two years ago.
The whole body was crap, though. Would have needed a complete new body. Would have needed a complete interior as well, as it was pretty trashed

    Love that front end.
Toyota translated that same front concept to the early Celicas and Crowns.

Ha! I learned to drive on a dark blue 1978 Hilux! Great memories of my mom yelling at me when I took corners a bit to quick!
