The past few weeks or so everytime I drive my truck after it being idle for longer than half an hour or over night it would randomly not coast forward when in drive. I give it some gas and it slowly releases and all is well again. This doesn’t happen every time but maybe 2 out of 3 times. When I reverse it doesn’t stick and just coasts back like usual then when I put it into drive after backing up it doesn’t stick.

I thought this would be a transmission problem since it only happens in drive, so I had a family friend that works at a transmission shop drive it and look at the computer also. When it happened to him he instantly said it was the brakes not the tranny.

I don’t use my E-brake ever because I’m never on any hills where I park at home or work. So it’s not the E brake not disengaging. Last time it happened I noticed the front of the truck diving down, so it may be the front brakes.

I’m lifting it up tonight to check out the brakes, but I would love to know if any of you had experienced this issue and found the solution.

After you experience this for a bit, get out and feel the hubs and rotors. The hotter one will be the problem.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
For what it’s worth it was a broken e brake cable that caused mine to do exactly as you are describing

I also vote for a sticking caliper piston or two.

Don't rule out the rear shoes sticking also, especially if you have a rear axle seal leaking.

So my pops and I looked at both of the front calipers and everything looked just fine.. troubleshooted some other things etc. After deciding on some things I leave, so we can back to it the next day. I was parked in some gravel at my grandparents where we were and as I left one of my back tires was skipping.

I got out and looked and there was a line of deep tire tracks from my rear passenger side dragging.

My dad and I lifted it up again to take a look at that drum and the shoes were super sticky. We cleaned them up and we’re positive that was the cause of everything. I’m gonna take a look at them in a few days to see if they become sticky again, the drivers side drum was perfect.

This started happening after I took the truck in for a service at my local toyota dealership a few weeks ago and had them look at some things... including looking at the drums...

My truck feels like it finally shit after being constipated for weeks. I really didn’t realize how much it was dragging until I started driving just now.. Hopefully this is the end of all that, and I atleast know the location and possible cause if it comes around again.

Thanks for all the responses, and to anyone who read this whole thing hehe

Just replied what I had figured out. But the drum was all clean except for the shoes being black/sticky to the touch. Drivers side had no problems. Cleaned up the passenger, but would it be much more noticeable if my axle seal was leaking?

Maybe the dealership set your parking brake while they had it in for service. Might explain the dragging rear brake.
