Anyone have recommendations on good winter tires for snow?

Just moved to the Midwest from Cali. I've lived in snowy climates before, but with the first (light) snow this weekend I was sliding all over.

I use the Bridgestone DMV2, huge improvement over AT tires on ice and snow.

Right now on my 2013, I'm running MasterCraft Courser MSR. All the delivery vehicles use them here in Vermont. Super pleased with them & siping is outstanding.
My last set were Bridgestone Blizzaks. Those we're fantastic until the soft rubber wore off 1/2 way than it's lost some of the effectiveness.
On my 2006 Taco, I used Firestone Winterforce. Not bad noisy but good.
I run dedicated winter's since I tow alot and go to Quebec where it's mandatory.

Hey Somon's Mom im from Ludlow Vermont!!!! Glad to meet you. Im running General Grabbers At 2's for the first time. Seam to do fine in the 5'' we got so far. I ran BFG's for the past 3 years no problem. I agree you cant beat a good studded winter tire.

Dedicated winter/snow tires are far superior to snowflake AT tires. General ArticMax cheap and great ice/snow tire.

I changed out my old Michelin MS/2's for Cooper ATW's this last summer. Supposedly they are the closest thing to a dedicated winter tire you can get and still use them in the summer. So far no problems on wet roads and off road. I'll have to wait and see how they do once real snow gets here. Some people refer to the AT/3 as the ATW. They are not the same. The ATW has a more winter friendly compound that the AT3 does. The expedition portal loved them as far as they had tested them in the article I read. I have read some reviews where customers said the mileage was lw and they wore out real quick but most others report decent longevity. That is something else I'll have to wait and see about.

If you want a true "winter tire" I always recommend Blizzak tires. Awesome ice traction.

If you want a year round tire that runs well on dry highways and snowy roads... Michelin LTX Defender (formerly known at LTX M/S2).

I personally run Cooper ST MAXX as a year round off-road tire that has served me well in Montana winters.

Do some searching and you will not find one bad review of these tires. I did some research and everyone on TW steered me towards the Nokians. I just got mine mounted yesterday and considering the conditions the last few days they were a massive improvement over the stock Wranglers. We had a light dusting that melted and froze and then 3 inches of dense snow on top. Some spots were perfect traction on the snow and then skating rink with no visual change. 4wd was a necessity more to keep things straight than anything else. After leaving the shop I only needed 2wd whereas the same street 2 hours before I was 3 feet out of line and risked doing a 360.

Where I live we get a lot of lake effect snow and blowing and drifting. Deep snow I prefer but we get dry roads to wet salted to drifting and this can all happen in 50’ and back again. That is the reason I go with winter / snows. The constantly changing conditions due to blowing can be deadly with the transitions from one condition to the next pitching you sideways with no warning.

Bar none the best winter tires I have had on ANY vehicle in my life. Highly recommend and were easily as good as all of the reviews I received on TW.

I've been running Blizzaks on our Subarus for the last 7-8 years. That combo got me through some horrible drives up and down the Colorado mountains. Super mild fall in CO so far, haven't gotten a chance to take the taco out in the snow yet.
