HI there I'm new to this forum, and I've been lurking and doing research in hopes I wouldn't have to post here. But I think it's about time I've succumbed to the wisdom on these forums for input!

To make a long story short, I've been in a back and forth with fox. with several sets of their coilovers that have failed fresh out of the box (resi and non resi) sending me used parts when I purchased a brand new factory kit. I'm looking at the Icon set from headstrong and writing off fox completely. (Returning some parts and deciding on what I'd need to keep)

Fairly bitter about the situation because I've done research from all the great postings on here. but I still have some questions and I'd appreciate a second check or two to make sure I have all my bases covered.

What I currently have: (from my foxbuild)
    ECGS bushing
    Def drop
(I don't think this is honestly required with the ECGS bushing change out but I wouldn't mind some input on this)
Sway bar spacer (is this recommended? I've seen yay/nay on this)

    285/75/16 terra grappler
    https://www.summitracing.com/parts/nit-200020/overview/
    16" XD126 Machete grey
    http://www.kmcwheels.com/wheel/24333/xd128-machete

I'm looking at this kit from headstrong Off-Road SKU: K53003T
    https://www.headstrongoffroad.com/store/p284/ICO_Stage_3_Suspension_Kit_-_K53003T.html

The note on headstrongs site reads:

Note: 17" Wheel or larger with a maximum of 5" backspacing required for Icon upper control arms. See manufacturers website for additional wheel requirements.

I however don't see any notes such as this on icons website for the same SKU: K53003T
    http://iconvehicledynamics.com/shop...5-suspension-system-stage3-w-tubular-uca.html

I'm not sure if i'm going abit crazy or just missing something. I'd appreciate any input or add ons I might currently be overlooking.

Is a 1/4" spacer recommended for the lean? and if anyone has input with these coilover systems I'd appreciate it.

    Thank you for your time
First set they tried to send me was earmarked as manufacturers defect, but they still had it on the stock shelves go figure.

I've added pictures of the second damaged kit I received from fox, I didn't take pictures of the box but it was held together with basic box tape and the whole box was rounded off. and these were marked factory new. you can see the bolts for the top mount are completely coated with some sort of loctite/compound at the bottom of the box. everything was loose/or missing and unwrapped from the manufacturer IMG_20171124_162043.jpg IMG_20171124_162010.jpg IMG_20171124_162001.jpg IMG_20171124_162025.jpg

Like I said this is my experience only, I ordered fox because I heard great things about them and ride quality, rebuild ability, I bought 2 coilover kits non resi and later a resi variant, at first they botched the order I called them a week after the order was placed got no call/email from them they told me the set I had ordered was defective. Also proceeded to tell me they weren't manufacturing anymore until december. so I upgraded to the resi coil kit (That they had in stock), and this is what I got hence the pictures I posted. this is directly from fox. and I wish I had transcripts of the phone conversations with their reps. Basically, I was told I was up shits creek, and they didn't care because they were fox. they made no efforts to remedy the situation other than upgrade or wait for the next batch to be made. Mind you I put this order in early november Items were in the stock system.

Again this is my experience I haven't seen anyone so far with the same hassle I've ran into, this is talking to multiple people at fox. and still got a run around. hence discouraged, and moving onto a different company and returning the rear set i purchased from fox. I only had issues with any of the front coilovers I tried to procure from them.

I’ve got icons all around on mine, I love them. They’re stiffer than most, but I’ve never had an issue. You definitely do not need any kind of lean spacer, the coilovers are fully adjustable to correct for any kind of lean. If you’re going to order from headstrong, I suggest you run all your questions by Marie, she’s awesome.

Also be prepared for pages of people telling you to buy kings instead... but in my experience icons have been very good.:crapstorm:

The coils have some scuffs. Am I missing something? How did the coilovers fail?

I was clearly missing parts from a (supposedly) brand new box of coilovers not to mention the damage, I'm not sure what I'd expect packaging from fox for a new set of expensive shocks. that I upgraded to from their supply issue. I expected a whole lot more than just a runaround from this company.

I've been in contact with Marie she's given me some great information that I've apparently looked over. Thank you for your input!

Yep thats bs. They should wrap each piece individually to prevent marring while shipped. To see this from an "elite" manufacturer is appalling, however as stated this could be one dick in shipping having a bad day and not a common problem.
That being said, I have had nothing but good service from Radflo and packing was top notch though I am having issues with surface rust due to my drivng environment.
If what you say is the case I would definitely be sourcing a new manufacturer.
    Kings are good........:p

You see the only red bolt in the picture I attached? that's the only one of two I received in the box. Also didn't receive a second resi mount. only one came in the box. I ordered this through my local 4x4 shop that's owned by a good friend of mine. His supplier came out and viewed the issues, and we took it straight to fox. and here I am looking at Icons!

Sorry for your situation. That does sound pretty poor. I just wanted to be sure you weren’t describing a failure of the shocks themselves.

Bummer you had a bad experience with Fox. I just received my Fox kit from Headstrong and everything arrived in pristine condition - coilovers, rear shocks, and Dakars (minus paint chips on the leafs but that's normal). Marie was super helpful, ordering was smooth, price was the best I found, and delivery was fast and free.

About some of your other points - the ECGS bushing is a god send, just installed mine this past week and it fixed the needle bearing vibes I was hearing but you'll still want to install the diff drop kit since the bushing doesn't get you a better cv angle. It all depends on how much you want to lift your truck, the higher you lift the more stress on your axel. Also, keep in mind that Fox and Icon are two completely different kinds of shocks. I won't open the flood gates here since there are threads on this topic already, but just keep that in mind.

Hmmmmmmm so your fox setup never got on your truck ?
You said you went through "several sets" of coilovers that "failed" right out of the box.
So how did the coilovers both resi and non resi's fail ?

Failure is an exaggeration. They showed up with some scuffs on the coils. Likely happened while being shipped. Not a big deal, but for the price it would be nice if they wrapped them to avoid that. I can't say my Icons were shipped much differently though.

OP is missing some hardware though, that absolutely should have come with the kit. Although OP did order through an off-road shop where he's friends with the owner. Not sure why the owner can't source him the pieces if he deals Fox, even more so just a Resi mount and a bolt. This really should be a non-issue.

I agree with you OP. If I had issues with 2 different orders and customer service was a joke I would spend my money else where. They obviously don't need your business.

Yep, I agree parts should have been there, but the shop could have replaced those in a day or two.
I was surprised to hear they "failed" with what sounded to be several sets.
Just tell the story right without ...embellishing (which is putting it lightly).

But the parts should have been there. The scuff would not bother me as mine got there's a day after install while testing them :) lol

I agree, there's no reason to tolerate poor service when spending this much money.

I don't know the particulars but can only add that the FOX coil-overs I bought were individually wrapped in plastic and came in a box that was obviously designed to hold them with rigid foam inserts and was printed with their logos all over it. But mine came through a distributor and not directly from FOX.

That's very unusual, we open every set of shocks we sell and have never seen that. I'd be really surprised if they don't take care of you.

/////we open every set of shocks we sell and have never seen that////

I would say someone is incompetent if this is the case. That is a bad statement to make when the customer reports the problems with 2 different shipments. If that was the case they should have seen both issues before sending and corrected them. This and bad customer service though. That alone is worth me not spending a dime on a company if I have these issues, or read about issues before spending money I work hard for.
