So I ran across this youtube video and found it pretty interesting take what you will from it. From my racing days we had to use either DOM or complete seamless tubing. Which seamless for those who don't know is tubing formed as tubing with no welding where DOM is welded then drawn over mandrel to get rid of the welded seam. I think this can help those without an understanding of tubing and strengths to understand better. Haven't seen this posted here yet. By the way the information can be applied to your favorite slider manufacturer not just 4xinnovations.

Wonder how bolt on sliders would handle the drop?

If done right then I think the same as the weld on. They showed the frame distorting from the drops if you look the plates don't go all the way up to the top of the frame that may be a good change to better strengthen it more.

Seems that the bolt on would distribute the load across the frame more

Yes it does. Looking at the weld on plates and the bolt on's I think there is a happy medium for the weld ons to distribute the forces better. But on that note I don't think that the majority of impacts will see those forces that they put them through

It would be great if one of the weld-on slider manufacturers would make plates to box in the frame, I'm pretty sure I've seen reinforcement for the rear spring section, but a boxed frame mod would be fantastic. If this has been covered already please point me in the right direction.

I have not seen any pre-made box plates but they are pretty simple to make. I think that attention also needs to be made to the thickness of the frames. All the guys SASing are welding an extra plate onto the outside of the front frame rails to help stiffen them and add more rigidity. Our frames are pretty thin.

That being said I plan on boxing my frame in, in a few places to stiffen it up some.

I don't really think the test in this video would entirely relate to off-roading in that our sliders are shorter and therefore going to be able to endure more punishment as shown in the 4Xinnovations testing video. I just thought it was interesting enough to post on a thread that was already touching up on it.

Interesting. There is something to be said with in certain applications having some flex in your tubing, but that would come down to selecting different alloys, diameters, and wall thicknesses. Good comparison though.

Steel is flexible! That's tubing on reels. It'll get unrolled, used, and then rolled back up and off to the next spot in the oil patch.

Very interesting. If nothing else that video confirms that I'll be fine with the HREW outer tube on my sliders. If I give my sliders the abuse like that 18" drop, I'll be perfectly happy with just a couple small dents.

Kind of what I'm thinking, and really, aren't sliders made for more of a sliding action, good video though!

I am wondering if it affects jacking???

    a couple things
I think the frame plates that go across the majority of the slider are far better than just the post pockets they wont flex nearly as much , sliders are just that sliding across trees, stumps , rocks , falling off ledges onto them etc ... my sliders on my taco dont get beat nearly as much as my old 4runner ... I dont even bother with hrew anymore everything is DOM , far stronger for impacts ..
