    A thing or two...
Before 09 or so, the coolant bypass was plastic and it's knows to fail where it bolts to the back of the thermostat housing. After 09, it was switched to metal. There's no functional difference, just a change to better materials.

Easy swap? How much coolant do you lose? Something that can be done on the trail with a toolkit? I don't particularly want to do it but I'll gladly buy one and keep it in the truck as a spare.

need to remove the - clamp on the battery then take out the throttle body and intake manifold off (going to need to move some wires) the 3 hoses by the firewall the one small one is a big bitch to take out and put back in, i also take out the tranny dip stick plus remove the starter and you should be good (you going to need 2 things of coolant to fill the truck) it took me about 3 hours to do and that with a lift

Hi I don't mean to ask a dumb question but I have an 05 Tacoma and my truck has this same leak at the coolant water pipe and I am having the frame replaced in the coming weeks. With the motor out when they replace the frame how much easier would it be to replace this? Thanks

Probably really easy with the motor out. The parts for it are less than $100

Thanks! Gonna ask the dealership to fix the leak when they have my truck. I was hoping it would be easier maybe therefore cheaper to replace.

I'd like to know what they charge - I asked about it when they replaced my frame - they said there was no leak and they hadn't any history of problems so they didn't do it. Please let us know how it goes and how much. Thanks for any reply.

Why haven't I heard of this before? Does not sound like a common failure part. Although if it does fail, it would be a true side-of-the road breakdown.

I overheated my truck and it cracked and had a slow leak there. Some might break all at once but I think most leak for a while

Someone posted that that 2010+ was stainless. Mines plastic and it’s early 2010. So it must have been a mid year switch?
