hey guys, so this is my first automatic vehicle i've ever had. it's an 08 tacoma with 28k miles. This could just be paranoia being my first automatic and all but every my truck shifts past second gear, when I stop and take off again there is a slight delay, doesn't sound too bad and it only does it in first gear. shifts into drive, reverse, park and all the other gears with ease. but when I completely stop and take off again, it's rougher than all the other gears. It feels like my driveshaft is spinning but just takes a half second for the rear dif. to catch. my buddy told me it could be my U joint but i honestly have no idea. does someone know what i'm talking about or is it all in my head?

If it's diff it seems you would hear gears grinding.

When was the last time you inspected the u-joints and greased them if possible(prerunner may not be able to grease)?

I doubt this is not a u joint or diff issue

Sounds like low tranny fluid. does it do it less when warmed up?
does it shudder cold around 40 MPH in D?

a few people on here had their tranny fluid dumped instead of engine oil and what you describe is the end result of not enough fluid

it does not shudder around 40; from first to second is the only time it ever happens. i'm takning it in friday. gotta love those "sealed" transmissions. i think it is low fluid tho. my output shaft was leaking so i replaced it. not sure how long it was leaking tho, and it never same to a drip. just a class 2 drip where if creates a bubble but never falls
