I picked up a set of Westin GenX Oval tube steps for my 2016 Tacoma access cab for a pretty good price used, supposedly never used since they were purchased by mistake for a doublecab.

The driver side steps went on with no problem. The passenger side steps were going well, brackets installed with the tube bolted down on the front and back bracket. Unfortunately one of the threaded holes that attach the tube to the bracket is broken. When I try to screw the bolt in, the threaded part starts twisting around in the tube. This is something I wouldn't have noticed until I started screwing in the bolts.

I figure I have two choices. First choice, not worry about the bolt and just use 5 bolts to hold that tube step in place. Second choice is to find some way to reattach the threaded piece. Anybody any idea how to do this?

I'll try to attach pictures later that might help explain what I'm trying to say here.

Center console divider thingy, rubber bed mat and side steps for the wife.
Where is the missing bolt located? One of the ends? Middle? Front or back?

The messed up hole is in the middle. I thought about not bothering with it at first, but it's the passenger side step which will probably get used more than the drivers side.

Here's a close up pic of the hole that's giving me problems. It is the lower one in the picture, which when installed is center of the bar and screws through the bracket from underneath. Hopefully that makes sense.

Seal it up and just go with 5. Should be plenty secure.

That's what I'm thinking of doing. It's not like I'm gonna have elephants jumping up and down on it all the time.

Ended up epoxying over the damaged hole. So far, can't tell that it's only held on with 5 bolts.
