Hey all, I know this isn't a Tacoma question but I'm hoping someone out there knows bout the 3rd gen 4runners.
Anyhow, my power steering and alternator belts broke and well the pulley the fan is connected doesn't turn, my bf says "the water pump is bad" I refuse to believe that, is a new pump with maybe 30,000 miles on it and 700.00 to fix it. So, my question is is it really the water pump? Which I thought the timing belt drive the water pump, at least I think that's what I recall from changing my timing belt bout 40,000 miles ago?...
Any tips or info, I'm really not wanting to do the water pump. Also, if I do should I really Change the timing belt again as well?
Thank you and I hope all of this makes sense to everyone.

It should be the fan clutch bracket, have admin move it out the the 1st gen tacoma section, you will get more respond because it's the same 3.4 v6

The water pump is turned by the timing belt, the fan however is not, if the fan will not turn then the bearing in the fan bracket has seized. You need a new radiator fan bracket with the bearing in it. Your water pump should still be fine, and there's no need to redo your timing belt. All that said 30,000 miles on a timing belt isn't exactly new, that's about a third of the way through the life of that timing belt and maybe a 6th of the way through the life of that water pump if it's OEM. 1/3 if it's not.

Well the fan turn but but the pulley is connected to does not. I'm trying to dig out if I can just replace that pulley and bearing?
Thx so much for what info you've given me so far, it gives me hope that is not the water pump :)

Yeah look up the fan bracket, the fan is a fluid clutch fan so when it's cool, (the motor isn't running or not at temp) it should turn with just the slightest resistance regaurdless of the pully. That's how the fan "disengages" when it's not needed.
