Hey gang..... new member, but have been reading the site for a while.

Just moved into a CPO 2016 TRD Sport from my 2007 Pre-Runner, and loving it!

One weird quirk... wondering if anyone else has seen this. My 2016 has push-button start smart key. When I UNLOCK the doors (either by touching the inside of the handle or pressing the unlock button on the fob), it chirps twice as expected. But when I LOCK the doors (either by touching the top of the handle or with the fob), no chirp.

I've played around with the Vehicle Customization settings in the media system, but there are no separate options for lock vs unlock. I've even tried turning OFF the tone entirely, then back on - no change. Not the end of the world, but it's annoying to not be able to check that my truck is locked without line of sight.

I've read all the posts I could find on how to turn the tone off or on, but no one seems to mention the state that mine is in.

Any suggestions? No clue what the previous owner might have done to it.

    Thanks!

My wife's Lexus does this because one of the door lock actuators quit working so only 3 of her 4 doors lock.

Check your doors if they all unlock. Mine did this yesterday. I couldn't open one of the doors from the outside. I opened it from the inside then tried to lock and unlock again and it started chirping again. Hopefully it was just a one time thing lol!

I've had the same issue for over a month. Tried switching batteries on the key fob, as well as using the alternate key fob with no success. Curious as to what suggestions others have.

It may be a door actuator, as my 2012 does the same thing and the drivers door actuator has gotten sloppy and doesn't move with the key fob. Only the physical key in the door.
Although I would think that a part like that would not wear/loosen so quickly on a 2016.

Thanks for the suggestions! I put the system through it's paces this AM. Locking/Unlocking all works as expected on both doors - touch, remote and interior buttons all actually lock and unlock both doors. Just no chirp on lock.

One odd thing I did notice - when I LOCK the doors, I can hear the driver's door actuator trigger twice. Gilcrestk - does yours do that?

Can someone whose DOES chirp check and see if you hear the actuator click twice?

It's done it a few times, but I don't think that happens every time.

My actuator on the rear passenger door was clicking twice but that door wasn't opening from the outside. Had to open from the inside and then it worked again. It chirped when I locked it. Prior to that it wasn't chirping and the actuator clicked twice.

I think I'll have the dealer tech look at it while it's under warranty. Might be hard to convince them, given that the door DOES lock and unlock. But I agree that it's probably a faulty actuator.

Update... I took it into the dealer today. They are going to replace the body ECU under warranty. I'll post back if that actually fixes the problem when the part arrives.

I am having the same problem right now. On top of it my cargo light stopped working at the same time.

For me, the root cause turned out to be a short in the main fuse block - not an ECU. I had to fight with them a little (long story), but they ultimately covered the replacement. The also had to replace the wiring harness - but that is also part of the long version of the story.

No.... according to the tech it was due to a dealer add-on alarm that was installed by the original dealer, then removed before the car was sold to the dealer that I bought it from. I got it CPO, so I argued that the issue (no chirp and screwed up wiring) should have been caught by the CPO inspection... or at least covered by the CPO warranty - which they finally agreed to.

Mine started as soon as my local Leonard shop put my Leer 100XR on. They are really nice guys and working to solve the problem. Hoping someone in here might have some tips to help us along.

Given what the techs said to me along the way, my guess would be that you had keyless entry installed on your shell and they shorted a wire when they tapped it in. Inspect the fuse block to see if there is any scorching and look for exposed wires around the quick-taps used for the keyless.
