so today I ordered my new suspension setup from Headstrong. My 2017 Tacoma came with a dealer installed shit lift. My question is can I get the same 2.5 inch lift out of the fox in the front and have it still ride better then the spacer lift?

    Thank you

Hell yes, your ride will be much better. I am at 3" with only the fox 2.0s and love it.

I am sure you know this, but this is a 3rd gen form...and therefore a 3 inch lift on your 2nd gen is actually a 2 inch lift on a 3rd gen. I don't want people to be misled about what their lift will and will not do safely.

The 3rd gen sits 1" higher so people automatically call it a lift. Though I have yet to see anything that shows the 3rd gen shocks longer than the 2nd gen but I could be wrong.

As far as I am concerned is not actually lifted 1" the CVs sit parallel to the ground.

You cant compare the 3rd gen and 2nd gen. My truck has a 3" lift though people would argue its a 4" if you compare to the 2nd gen which again in my opinion, is irrelevant.

We call it a lift, because it makes more sense automatically that it has less overall lift possible.

Also, how can you not compare 2nd and 3rd gen trucks? What can't you compare about them?

So would you then argue that the 3rd gen Pro has a 2" lift compared to the 2nd gen? When in reality the Pro is not lifted at is as a "factory lift" of 1"

The difference from what I have seen is simply coil spring rates. Basically the truck isn't lifted, the suspension simply sags less...

So I cant consider less sag a lift.

Given that logic I would say anytime you add a spring with a higher rate and 'raising' the vehicle, you aren't lifting it. So, my buddy with a Toytec lift on his FJ is NOT lifted, despite the fact that it is since he is using coils with a higher spring rate. I understand you want to maintain or increase down travel when lifting, rather than decrease, but the definition of lifting is not directly correlated to down travel, therefore I don't see how your logic truly makes sense here.

PS Not arguing, just having a discussion.

Agreed, I'm trying to understand others logic in this as well since I have heard many people say the 3rd gen is lifted over the 2nd gen.

From what I have simply observed, all lifts (aside from body) require longer shocks, even a block lift is an extension of the shock, so if the 3rd gen Pro has the same front coilover/strut length as a 2nd gen I dont see how it is really lifted. Maybe they arent the same length, im struggling to find data, but I do know the 3rd gen Pro coilover is the same strut length of my OR

Maybe I'm just an idiot and beyond all hope.

So about that original question. Can the fox 2.5 be preloaded sadly and still ride well to about 2.5 inches on a 3rd gen?

    Thank you

    Should be able to yes.

I have Kings and they are loaded at 2.75 and ride just fine.

I should have said replacing a spacer lift with FOX coilovers is going to be a much better ride.

It's semantics. Is the 3rd gen lifted relative to the stock height of a 2nd gen? Yes, but only relative to that. Outside of that comparison they are just stock height.

The reason people said "3rd gens come with a 1" lift" was to correct the listings in the early days since everyone was buying 2nd gen parts for 3rd gens. That's still the case but most of the sellers have updated their listings to reflect the reduced total lift achievable on 3rd gens. As its the same suspension you end up at the same height but since the 3rd gen starts higher in the stroke from the factory the delta (lift amount) is reduced.
