Bear Creek also had side charging uppers for $118. Not sure if that sale is still going on but it went on sale yesterday. They have a deal everyday until Christmas.

I've been reading and thinking about what was suggested on here. Originally I wanted a M&P 15-22 b/c I figured it would be cheaper to shoot plus I didn't know how much "range" time I would have or use a .223/5.56 model. Someone here suggested that I get a .22 conversion kits by CMMG. I've been looking at videos and reviews and the only negative that I've seen is that b/c the .22 would be shot out of a bigger barrel, it's not as accurate as a stand alone .22lr model. But the groups isn't that bad either so I don't think it would be that big of a deal. My concern now is, what kind of sights or scope would work on both calibers? I like how the 15-22 has the Magpul front and rear sights but the 15 Sport II has the "A" front sight. I'm not sure if that's what it is called or not b/c I'm a newbie at this. If you put a scope on it and shoot the larger caliber and then shoot the .22lr, would it affect the scope accuracy? Also, what would be some accessories that would benefit both calibers? Sorry for all the questions and I'm sure I will have plenty more.

I don't have the 22lr conversion, my suggestion though would be just to build a new upper. Then it is an easy swap and you wouldn't have to worry about new scopes or adjusting the sights. For $200 bucks though, I'd get a Ruger 10/22 and make it look like an AR if that's what you want. I've had a 10/22 for 10ish years it has never ftf or fte, it eats everything you feed it and will give you clover groups at 50 yards.

I've got a Marlin model 60 .22 now which I know doesn't have many mods available like the Ruger. I haven't been interested in an AR style until lately, my uncle bought the Ruger 556, I shot it and I was like "oh I like this". Being my first one that was one of my main reason of getting the M&P 15-22 to learn on and let me wife and daughter shoot some.

How would you build a new upper? What parts would be needed and where would I purchases these from?

Well that makes me feel a little better about how much smacking I had to do to get the grip on my AR. So glad to be away with the A2 grip, it was just to small and that finger notch was bitey, and not in that fun way. :D

Also got the little AFG installed so I can choke up and humb-brake my rifle without burning my fingers on my gasblock. :bananadead:

The much more satisfied with the near vertical angle and swell of the MOE 2 vs the narrow ski slope A2 grip.

Now I just need a better stock, leaning towards the Hera CQR furniture for that space gat look, I really like their low pro handguard I have on mine already.

What distance is best for zeroing a red dot? 25yds, 50yds or 100yds? Primarily will be shooting close range out to about 100-120yds max.

Well a battle zero for iron sights is 150yards, so I'd zero it at 100yards that should get you close enough, minute of man from 0-200y I'd expect.

Tight as a sharks butt, water tight!

And thank-you! It's my first big boy rifle, if you can call it that only shot it a few times but really enjoy it!

I ended up smacking the grip with my hand to just get it started then grabbed it by the barrel and lightly struck it on the carpeted floor to seat it up enough to get the screw hole lined up, then the grip screw took it home.

Was afraid I was doing something wrong as the A2 grip practically fell off the lower when the screw came out. Also almost missed the selector detent spring when it dropped out, didn't know there was a spring that extended into the grip! Still learning.

I kind of picked the parts for this build but a friend of a friend actually assembled it.

Really can’t go wrong with the 50/200 zero. A quick google search should break it down simply.

I use the 50/200 on all mine except for the 10.5” pistol. I zeroed that at 25, a little more extreme spread across the distances, but honestly any important shot that thing sees will be at less than 25 in a hallway or front yard anyways.

No prob, really though, look up the ballistic charts of the various zeros. A 100 yard zero for the 5.56 round does work, but you can have a lot lower spread across 0-300 using a different zero distance.
Not only do you get a closer zero that will be more accurate but you get a flatter trajectory path across the range.
I prefer the 50/200 but even a 25/300 will give better results than a 100.

Del Ton ar’s, thumbs up or thumbs down? I’ve been in the market for an entry level rifle and a local shop is running a deal on Del Ton entry rifles for $459. Don’t know much about them so I’m curious if I should pull the trigger on one.

I wouldn’t. You can do better than delton for that price.

Smith and Wesson, Ruger, and palmetto state armory ar15 are about the same price so I wouldn’t get a delton.
