This just doesn't happen anymore with new vehicle. Heck, I have 250K on the original exhaust on my work vehicle. What kills converters is plugs miss firing or missing or overrich problems due to o2 sensors, modding, or other electrical faults [bad coil] that dump raw gas.

FWIW, I have 12,400 hours of engine run time and it can idle all night quite often and much of the day in the winter.

Something doesn't seem right here. You're not running the blower on hi, are you? Are all the heater doors function properly? If you have an IR thermometer, scope out what your actual temperatures are. Should have blazing heat running it for that long.

First, there is no "normal" time. Too many variables. Ambient temp, sitting overnight versus just for an hour, sitting in the shade versus sun, etc. For me, it took about five minutes yesterday with an ambient of 30 degrees. If you feel it is taking too long, take it to the shop. This is not a common problem or else it would be all over the forums.

Lastly, comparing anything old to anything new is never a good idea. I am 55. I can't compare myself to when I was 18 now can I?

"The older it gets the better it was" is a statement that applies to everything. Trucks, people and especially memories.

I have the blower on medium speed. The only thing I can think of is I don't drive my truck hard so it is normally at lower RPMs so it isn't getting a ton of heat from the engine speed? I will test again after work today.

I understand there is no normal situation but I've been living in PA my whole life and have had 7 different Toyotas. I know about how long they take to 'normally' warm up.

And of course I can compare my 2016 to my 1993 because in your terms, my 'old' trucks heat works better than my 'new' trucks heat. Things should be improved from 1993 to 2016 that's why I suspect that something might be wrong. I also work on my own truck :) No need to take it anywhere. Just trying to see if anyone else has an issue. I honestly think I might have bumped my recirc button.

One last thing. Sometimes with the heater set to cool for many months, the coolant (especially long life stuff) chemicals have a tendency to drop out. I don't recommend you do this if you have warranty but on other Trucks I've isolated the heater & spotted a chemical like CLR, then flushed just the heater core section. Heat & flow increased. Worked for me.

The last dozen frozen mornings, I’ll turn the truck on with full heat for the seats, window defrost blower only, 75 degrees, recirc off, and 11 on the fan speed.

The truck is warmed up nicely after about 5-6 minutes, the engine needle will still be only a few dungrees higher. There is a noticeable heating/fan improvement again though when you hop in and actually take it out of park.

I have a ‘17, its already been single digit cold in the morning, mine definitely takes longer to warm up...
I had a 00 Tundra and still have an Odyssey and they both warm up much faster.....
Not sure if I turned it on full heat defrost, didnt realize there is an electric heater there....I will try this tomorrow for sure.....

Put in a block heater and set it up on a timer.

Also, don’t use recirc in the winter. It’ll trap moisture inside the vehicle and then your ice will be on the inside as well as the outside.

Check your coolant level, you might have air bubbles.

Do all the models have this? I don't think my 2.7 does.

You cannot turn the "re-circulation" on when the defroster is on. Tried that this morning....

Update: I am just an idiot and must have bumped the re-circulation button. It was drawing in all the outside cold air. What an idiot - Never even thought of that. Thanks @walterj for reminding me of that.

Actually, you can. If you put recirc on, then have the fan to floor only, if you hit mode again it will show the defrost on and your recirc will also be on.

Even in Albuquerque, it gets down to the low 20s and high teens in the winter, and those heated seats make all the difference. It does seem to warm up slower than my 2nd Gen. did.

Another thing to keep in mind: if your old truck was an access cab or single cab, it does take longer to warm up the volume of air in a double cab. I have noticed that.

I just drive the half-mile to the interstate in first gear. At 4:30am, I'm the only one on the road.

Not sure if the parts diagram that was posted was just V6 or both, but it is a pretty neat idea nonetheless

It may be part of optional equipment, as there are notes in the SM such as: *1- W/PTC Heater.

Edit: Shit, now I'm going to have to experiment again! BRB...
