Hey folks, minor issue that I don’t care if it gets fixed but I’d love to know what it is. When I bought my truck 6 months ago it had a hum I could feel in the steering wheel that was most noticeable at 45-55 mph. It went away when veering left and got worse when veering right. I jacked it up and the left front wheel had 1/2” of vertical play. Wheel bearing, right?

I replaced the bearing (thanks for all the write-ups!), no change except for play. 2 months later I replaced the right for good measure. No change. 1 month later I rotated tires. No change. Drivetrain has been lubed.

At this point I see these options:
    1) rear wheel bearing
    2) one severely out of balance tire
    3) hidden loose bolt somewhere that lets something vibrate

    Thoughts?

Rotate your tires, front to rear, and see if it helps.
Or have a tire shop rotate and balance.

    Already done.

Also, I forgot to mention that at highway speeds the drone isn't quite as noticeable but the vibration is bad enough it blurs the image in my rearview mirror unless I put my finger on it to absorb the shaking.

    4Hi, no change.

Tires are Michelin’s, some sort of all season. Look to be about halfway through their life, no apparent uneven wear. Rotsted 4K ago with no change in noise.

Lubed the joints, what else should I check on the shaft?

I’d like to see if another set of tires makes a difference. Edit: or rotate them

According to your 1st post, you replaced the left front wheel bearing twice and did nothing with the right.

    ????????????????

My bad. I corrected it now. I replaced both, left followed by right.

    Update to the saga:
A couple months ago I noticed a brake squeal like a pad was getting to the scratcher. However, it also squealed a bit when rolling slowly without applying brakes at times. Over the past few weeks it’s become consistent with breaking and quietly squeals anytime it’s rolling.

The interesting bit is that it gets louder when turning right and gets quiet when turning left, exactly like the original bearing noise...which is of course still present.

Is a caliper dragging? Could this be contributing to the “bearing” noise?

If that's the case at 45-55 when you lightly press the brakes the vibration should stop. Thats not mentioned in any of your posts, at least if it was I didn't see it

Correct, braking doesn’t affect the vibration.

How many miles are on the front pads? When the get old they tend to shift around. They can clunk and make other noises.

Oh, I can't speak to that. I got the truck with 195,000 as a 3rd owner. I have service records up through 120,000 from number 1 but the last owner didn't use a dealership. I'd say there's a decent chance they're original, lots of highway miles on this truck.
