Welcome to TW first of all!

    Not hard at all.

Open your tailgate, you'll see some bolts on the "inside", next to the tail light. Unscrew those, and then just pull the tail light off with a bite of force, since it is also clipped in.

One thing I will mention. When I did this mod yesterday, when unscrewing the factory plug, I could hear a huge gush of air getting sucked into the differential. This was after the truck has been sitting all night in temperatures in the high 50s. Goes to show how much pressure is inside the differential trying to suck air or anything into it. Makes this mod that much more sense for the seals and such.

I think everyone should consider doing this mod. It is cheap insurance.

Did it last week, into the little storage compartment. I also found it all as a kit for $25, much easier than the dealer even if it was a few dollars more.

I am not going to lay down under the truck tonight, but these pics should give you an idea. I routed it along the inside of the frame, it’s really the only place it can go. It’s zip tied loosely to another line. For the box, I removed it to drill the hole. That website shipped very fast too.

Yea I’ve always done it to my trucks. I used to try to make the electrical connections waterproof with dielectric grease and all that, but these new trucks just have too much electrical going on. It used to be a few plugs and done.

OK, can't find the post but I read in one of these threads somebody said the replacement axle union threaded in and never tightened. Just kept spinning.

I'm having that problem too. The threads looked the same but I didn't do a close inspection.

Part number I got is 90404-51314. I see in this thread it's listed as 90404-51319.

I did do a test fit and hand screwed in the union before putting teflon tape on it, didn't notice anything then.

Another note is I used high pressure air line as the hose. The hardware store had 1/4 and no 3/8 so I bought the 1/4. It was really tough to get it on and I'm worried it may split so I am keeping an eye on it. Test your union on the hose before making a purchase.:(

How much did you torque it down? It’s an NPT thread, IIR. You have to torque it down but not much and it shouldn’t bottom out. The tapered thread seals it from air/water.

Like 10 pounds. I never put the torque wrench on it. It bottomed out and kept turning. I'm thinking it's a slightly smaller size and the threads stripped. Maybe the one I got isn't a NPT thread and that's the problem. o_O

Hmmm. That sucks. Definitely shouldn’t be free spinning at the bottom. Sure the threads on the fitting didn’t strip? The threads on the rear diff are pretty strong. Regardless, you just need to make seal there. Maybe try re-tapping it? Careful with the metal shavings though.
