Recently purchased a 2012 taco 4x4 that has cooper ATP's at present. They have about 50% tread left and are cupping bad and rides like a log wagon. I do not do any off roading other that cutting firewood in the woods and some occasional snow one or twice a year. 90% of driving is on the highway.

What do you guys recommend for a good AT/HT tire. Not going michelin due to price, wife has those on her car and loves them but just cant put that much capital on tires for my truck.

Had Hankook dynapro ATM's on my old 93 and liked them but they were getting noisy and starting to slightly cup even though I rotate every 4500-5k miles and a little more aggressive than I need now.

    Thanks.

Before I would spend any money on new treads, get the alignment checked as to why the tires are cupping.

Definitely recommend an alignment as stated. You might get new tires and then end up getting those all messed up. If you do your majority of driving on the road, I’d recommend looking at some Toyo AT2’s. They have more highway friendly tread but still provide that occasional off road use.

When my dunlops wear out, they currently have 26k and plan to run them until next winter, considering Firestone Destination AT. Like to have michelins but like you do not want to drop that much coin on tires.

Over inflation is normally the cause for cupping. Look up how to do a chalk test to find the correct tire pressure. What load rating are the ATP's? If they are load range E, most tire shops will over inflate them for our light trucks, which would explain the cupping and the rough ride.

A decent pair of tires will run you about $1000 for the use you’re looking for. Just like the old saying, you get what you pay for.

Yes I know, I have michelin defenders on wifes pathfinder and they are not to be beat as far as ride goes, but I am not going to put those on my truck.

I think i just opened a line of credit with discount tire to more easily afford them

Of course there are other reasonable choices, go with a comparable off brand tire with road tread, it is a truck and gonna ride like one regardless i guess

Yes, discount tire would be an option. I think if you spend over $200 you get 12 months to pay it off at 0% APR.

Firestone tires have been good to me over the years. If you go for tires only, the rest of their "services" have become a ripoff at my local store.

It appears most AT tires cup at some point. All sets I have had over the years have had some level of cupping.
